Curious question...when you buy a boat of that caliber, how long does the sales/delivery staff train you on the boat and its systems when you take delivery? Is it a day process, 3 day process etc??? I know you are not new to owning a large boat, so you are more experienced than many (me), but still there must be a tremendous amount to learn when taking on a new craft like that.
There is a whole lot to learn. For starters, it's my first diesel boat and, while I have been reading voraciously about diesels over the past few months, there are many fundamental things that are done differently with your engine checks, starting and shutdown procedures, etc. But what you find is that all of the other systems are essentially the same as a smaller boat - there are just many more of them.
I had become familiar with the boat's basic operation through my sea trials. My actual delivery day was fairly overwhelming, as you might imagine, so I wanted to save systems review for a subsequent day. On delivery day I moved the boat with a captain the relatively short distance from the dealership to her winter home. I fired off a lot of questions, but had the cap return two days later when we spent hours going though systems and procedures and then got out on the water for several hours to not only learn, but really put the boat through its paces. By the next day I was taking the boat out without the captain.
What's terrific is that I will have a dealer-provided captain available to me anytime I'm at the boat this winter and they're also scheduling a Cummins tech to come and spend a few hours really going though the engine/drive systems with me - it's a great service they provide. The dealership also provides a captain for as much of the delivery up north that I wish so that will certainly be a great additional learning opportunity after I've become much more intimately familiar with the boat.
