Well, been watching a bunch of videos and I'm feeling very motivated. I want to build an Australian power racing dinghy for my backyard pond and river running. I'm thinking of finding an old Smoker Craft Alaskan 12 and bolt on a 35hp 2-stroke slightly modified outboard on a jackplate. Should be stupid fast.

Thoughts?

hahaha yep.

I was going to buy an older jet ski this winter, but this seems WAYY cooler to me. A 185lb boat with a 115lb 35hp Johnson tiller pull start outboard. With my 190lb butt it should do around 50mph propped right. Will probably need some small smart tabs to keep it from being too mental.

WTH. This is the second time in a week I have agreed with ric.

Do it!

When I was a kid I thought I was as cool as those Aussies. I had a 12' Fisher with a 9.5 Evinrude. I would run all over the lake at 15-20 mph having a blast. It was an awesome childhood but it was never fast enough.

I then had fun with 11' Zodiac and a 15 HP Mercury. It was only marginally faster but far more entertaining. It would hop and skip around and would carve awesome turns.

I now have the same 15 HP Mercury on a 12' Lund...it is a riot but the boat is just not built heavy enough to really take the abuse any more power would give it. It is rated at 15.

I took a look at the specs of the Alaskan.

Must be a typo:

12 TL Specifications
Max Horsepower (hp) 700 --- $$$ why not get a Seven 557 on there?
Boat Length 11' 10"
Beam (in) 63
Dry Weight (lbs) 185
Max Persons 3
Max Capacity (lbs) 700
Interior Depth (in) 19
Transom Width (in) 56
Bottom Gauge (in) 0.064
Side Gauge (in) 0.060
Rib Gauge (in) 0.064

The Alaskan 12 is rated for 25hp, I found the specs. Ok no big deal. I'll just have to find one of these:
