So many people back their trailer into the water way too far.

So, how far do you guys back in? I usually back in until the side bunks on my FW trailer are just under water. When loading, I also make sure that the front of my forward bunks are just under water. Sometimes this has me pretty far in with my Tahoe. Bumper almost to water level. Today, at Raystown Lake in western PA, I used a ramp that was pretty flat and was about up to my bumper when loading. Boat went on nicely without having to winch too hard. Just wondering if maybe I am going too deep.

I back mine in until the tops of the wheel fenders are at the surface of the water. Rear side bumpers are still up above the water. This level requires a moderate push by the engine to drive the boat up to the bow roller. Also requires a little reverse to back off the trailer. Truck wheels are usually about 3 feet from the water, depending on ramp steepness.

my rear fenders are 3/4 out of the water and I stop when the transom floats. undo the winch and the boat slides back about 4 feet to a rest and a "woman's push" and it is off i toss the lines to the wife on the dock, she walks the boat all the way as far down the pear out of the way while I park the trailer..

Yep that's Bayport down on the South Shore.... I'd never launch a boat around here with a 2 WD truck of any kind, especially when the boat gets to weigh close to what the truck weighs. It seems worse at steeper ramps because the momentum and weight work against you. Shallow ramps there is not so much force at work, and usually the stern is floating before your rear wheels would be in the water.

My rear tires hit the water at the ramp and I am set. If I am not touching water, the boat is pretty hard to push off the trailer.

Our ramp is fairly flat, and clean - not to mention I have AWD, so no problems going up the ramp.

Saw a guy launch a bayliner OB with a 2WD older toyota PU a few weeks back - he squealed the tires heading up the ramp and made people angry about the noise....
