Anchors

Ok so i presently have a 5# SLIP RING with 3/8 chain i think it is 6' and the past 2 seasons it has done alright. BUT this season we were at the cove at the sand bar point about 15 times. The cove is 75' deep hole that RAPIDLY approaches the beach where i like to anchor so that i can back almost all the way to the beach. my ladder is in 3' of water at the transom which is about 4-5' off of the shore this has prevent to work great for the wife and friends to access the boat.

At present i have a 5# slip ring bow that in the past has done great but this new location it like to pull or slip in the event of a passing boat. The last big weekend that we were out 3 BIG 40 foot plus boats sling a nice couple sets of waves and popped the anchor right out. I feel the Flutes are not heavy enough and long enough to have a good enough hold in the sand..

This drove me to the investigation of larger bow main anchor and to shift the 5# slip ring to the stern and replace the 2# danforth with 8' chain that is usually buried not he beach. Shifting the smalled danforth, my tested and true holds all of the time to the 14' fishing boat permanently.

NOW after the rambling i am trying to decide how large of a Danforth traditional arm anchor to get. I have looked at the FORTRESS anchors but i cannot bring myself to spend the cash. I looked at a 8# this weekend that felt and looked to be about the right size for a 20' bow. But i cannot decide if i need to go larger.. i would like to still be able to put the anchor in the bow locker..

WHAT SIZE DO OTHER GUYS HAVE with their 20s foot area boats..

I have a 12 or 13# danforth style as my main. Don't know what brand it is, but it holds fantastically. I use a cheap 8# fluke as a stern anchor when needed / wanted. The 8# does not hold all that great, but it's good enough in sand to keep us from swinging at the beach.
I have an '84 225 sundowner- 22' boat, around 24' if you include the platform.

We use an anchor buddy on the river, and then a shore anchor. The elastic on the anchor buddy lessens the pull on the anchor and helps out with the shock from the wakes.

yea i know. i think i am going to go to 12-15' on the bow and move the 6' to the stern. I simply need to see what the largest danforth that will fit in the anchor locker is.. I was looking at them again last night and like the 10-12# area. the 8 may not be enough of a step up to make me happy. I guess a trip to West Marine is in the near future. I have to decide if i want to move the entire current bow set up to the stern and upgrade to heavier line in combination with the chain and anchor in the bow. Going to see what dad has laying around. He probably has 10 anchors in the garage. most are way too large they are for 30-60' boats and sailing mark bouies.

well now to measure and measure.. hummmm
