Hey everyone, first post on this forum and I was wondering if there is any particulars that I should be looking at when buying a used 97 horizon 180rs. it has a built-up 4.3L with very few hours on the new rebuild, around 15 I think....

The current owner has a dyno sheet (haven't seen it yet) that says it puts out 270 some horses. I don't know much at all about outdrives on I/O's as I've been an outboard guy....

any help would be appreciated, if you need more info. let me know and I'll see if I can answer it.

I would have to doubt the 4.3L is outputting 270 hp. I guess it would be possible, but then I wouldn't expect it to last long. The highest rating for a 4.3L I think is like 225hp.

I kind of thought that also at first but talking with a friend of mine who I know had engine work done on his 4.3, he said that his topped out right around there. I know that his was bored out, shaved heads, more aggressive cam, different pistons and the whole nine yards..... that thing ran like a top for 5 years...he sold it now but I'm sure it is still running.

I'm going down to check it out tomorrow morning, I'll find out what all is done to it..... I know for a fact that the heads are shaved and there is a different cam in it, other than that the seller didn't get into it too much. He had a professional engine builder do the work. I'll get a copy of the dyno and parts list.
