I've been though that and similar many times hence I:
Keep a spare boat key on my car key chain and...
Keep a spare car key on my boat key chain!
I do it because of personal experience. No other comments needed. :roll:

This reminds me I have to get some extra keys made before we head out. Only got one with the boat when we bought it. And we have little ones on board.
