They aren't kidding when they say it is a high end lake. $20 to put the boat in. $20 to take the boat out. $30 for Zebra Mussel inspection. And $55 to leave it in a slip overnight. Combine that with rough water and few inlets and even fewer places to dock and even get lunch. Plus water at 66 degrees. I don't think I really have a need to take the boat back to Lake Tahoe.

The next time you go to Lake Tahoe put in at Lake Forrest (north of Tahoe City, CA) next to the Coast Guard Station. It is only $10 to launch there. You also must watch the weather. Wednesday on the lake was perfect with mild temperatures and calm winds. When the wind is over 15 mph there are large waves and rough conditions. There are few places to anchor because of the extreme water depth. Much of the lake is over 1,000 ft deep. The Nevada side has some great coves offering everything from family picnic spaces to a nude beach. Try the website http://www.boattahoe.com for more information. As far as the water temperature, well it is not much of a swimming lake unless you are in a cove where the water can warm up. But it is quite an experience to swim around the boat. You will discover a new ability to swim faster than ever before because it is the only way to get out of the cold cold water. Better luck next time.

That is some high prices! Most of our Lakes around Ontario are free to access (by public launches) and even if you launch at a private marina it's usually only $10-$15 to launch and park. The overnight slip fee is about normal. BTW, Lake Ontario was 76 F this weekend and peaked at 79 F over the last couple of weeks.

Thanks for the tip Obie. I would bet those places are packed though for that rate. The weather on Saturday was really good. Temps were about 80 and wind about 10mph until later in the afternoon. I did find several spots in the 900' deep range. Overall it was a good day on the lake just an expensive one. I did get in the water about knee deep off the back and thought better of it. If I ever go back I will definitely have to do a better job planning though.
