OK so I need some help from the Aussies on here. We have sold a S215 to an internet customer over there and now we need to narrow up the trailer. We here are at 102" overall and need to be at 98" to be legal. Four Winns says that we can purchase rims with a positive off set to gain the 2" on each side but can't tell us who makes the rims. We have had the trailer over to a tire and rim shop and almost have a rim that works but falls a little short. Major porblem is that Four Winns hub size and lug stud size are massive compared to any car that these offset rims would fit. Have any of you guys retro'd a US trailer or knnow what kind of rims I can use to make this happen. I know there are wiring issues and some other mods that the customer is going to have to do over there. I mainly have to get it to the required width. Thanks guys!!!

I can't help with the Australian requirements, but isn't the issue with the width of the boat, rather than the trailer? Australia is long gone as a UK colony, as is the USA! ( Hi Aussie and US owners!), many regulations in Australia are carry over, Certainly in the UK a boat can be wider than the trailer, 102" is only about 2.6 metres. As th e 205 to 245 were sold in Australia, presumably they meet the local requirements with respect to towable width.

You are absolutely correct - the maximum width to register any vehicle (including a trailer) in Australia is 2.5 metres (98.4").

If the trailer or load is wider than 2.5m, then you can obtain an oversize permit which will allow you to tow up to 3.1m wide with the appropriate signage and flags. Yep, it's all a bit vague... more information is in this link. Even though each individual state has its own motor vehicle laws, as far as width goes, they are pretty consistent.

Off the record, 102" is pretty close and most people would probably register and tow this without a permit! Little or no chance of getting caught - not many police carry a tape measure!

my 215 sundowner is on its original USA trailer. when the dealer got it, they just got the local trailer place to re-do the lights and pass its rego. hasnt been an issue to date, despite it being wider then a bus !

btw, i got a wheel made up for the spare, as its not a standard aussie size. plain galv. steel rim cost me under A$60. i'm sure any wheel place could set you up with a set off rims to your specs,
