I know this is not FW related, and of little interest to those of you that are not in the industry, but thought I would pass it along. Too much doom and gloom lately in the boating industry with the Genmar Chapt. 11, Century Boats closed for good Monday, etc.......
So here are a couple of positive things, that hopefully show some light at the end of the tunnel for the hobby we all love so much.

Quote:
Regal Marine is hiring 100 workers this fall and said it will open a showroom where shoppers can check out its boats before buying.
The showroom is part of a corporate marketing campaign designed to boost sales through retailers who no longer can afford to stock large numbers of unsold boats, according to an article in the Orlando Business Journal.

Quote:
VONORE, Tenn. – MasterCraft Boat Co. is recalling additional employees to its worldwide headquarters in Vonore, Tenn., it reported in a recent statement. On Nov. 23, 40 employees returned to the MasterCraft workforce, which will be followed by an additional 33 employees to be brought back this month, according to the company.
These new openings are in addition to the 175 recalled workers the company announced in July of this year.

Correct Craft also has rehired 40 workers this month after laying off 100 last summer.

Tige Boats, based in Abilene, Texas, told The Reporter News that it has increased production from three boats a week last year to eight boats per week. The company has about 75 employees after cutting 85 positions in 2008.

I really like the idea Regal is trying with a showroom that is not dependent on a dealer to support it. The problem of course is that if you only have one your not able to get the national effect you could with a strong dealer network.

I suggested on another forum some time ago that small niche market brands could really succeed by having a few regional showrooms that allow potential customers to come and look at and try the boats before they buy. Imagine if there was a showroom within a couple hours of you that allowed you to look at the boats you are considering and also have the opportunity to sea trial the boat you want without the "pressure" a dealer could potentially put on you. From my experience to get a dealer to allow you to sea trial a boat isn't all that easy.

Good point RotaryRacer. I know our local FW dealer actually refused to let me test drive their boats. He said if they did that--they would end up having to sell all their boats as demos. Needless to say--that didn't sit well with me. Your not going to spend $30-$60K or more on a boat and never drive it first (at least I'm not). Having some kind of outlet to allow for testing could even benefit dealers if this is a truly a concern for them.

Two days in a row !!!

Brunswick recalls employees in Florida
Quote:
Previously laid-off employees at Brunswick's Palm Coast, Fla., production facility were recalled recently as the company prepares to ramp up production of Meridian Yachts. The Palm Coast facility currently employs 265 people building Meridian Yachts from 40 to 47 feet, and Sea Ray sportyachts from 39 to 50 feet. Employment dropped by more than 40 percent during the last year as production declined.

We saw an influx of orders from PC last month, and this explains it. Good to see, and I hope it continues.

Maybe Four Winns can get their parts department to at least respond to dealers who are waiting on parts (and have been for months with virtually no communication at all). I would be so pissed off if this was prime season and I was waiting on a part and the factory basically ignored my dealer. I really couldn't care less about their potential future customers if they can't service their current ones.

I know Scott and Skip from my trip to Cadillac... It's great to see them back on board!!!! Having Andy try to do all the work for national sales must've been ALOT of work...

Some good news for the "fishy" catamaran crowd announced yesterday, as well as the employees of Twin Vee.
Quote:
FORT PIERCE — Fort Pierce — The U.S. Bankruptcy Court Southern District last week transferred all Twin Vee Boats Inc. assets to its original owner and founder businessman Roger Dunshee and he has reopened the boat manufacturer’s doors after almost a one-year hiatus.
