What do you guys use for checking current weather conditions while your out on the water? Any iPhone Apps or websites you use besides buying a $2000 device for the boat? :)

Share your methods of checking weather prior to heading out as well as what you use while underway!

I like the (free) iphone app from The Weather Channel. The radar lets you zoom in pretty tight and also generates future patterns on the radar (I think 45 mins ahead). I also have the Navionics "Lakes" map for my area. It's pretty good...could be better, but a bargain for the $5-10 that it costs (I forget the exact price).

I use the mobile site for Weather Underground (m.wund.com). They have a fairly accurate forecast and allow you to zoom into the local radar and see the in-motion radar to track the weather. For those that can get a reliable signal with AT&T, they also have an iPhone App.

2nd Weather Underground mobile site. Used to use their iphone app, but they stopped updating it. The mobile site is much better anyways.

NOAA on the VHF or any of the other 4-5 radios in the truck, boat, etc.

foreflight, It is an app on the ipad and iphone. It's actually designed for pilots but has great weather information that is current.

NOAA on the VHF, Weather Channel and Weather Underground (I really like weather undergrounds radar) on the Black Berry. If that all fails, I just sit on beach in chair and look up 8)

WeatherChannel and Accuweather apps for iPhone are pretty decent. Only drawback is that the data network surrounding my home lake is slow and sometimes unreliable.

Is there an app that will improve the weather here, so I can actually use the boat?

Tom,

Not so much the rain ( torrential downpours where I live for the last 2 days, but still a ban on using hosepipes as the reservoir levels are low, even though our local area water comes from a deep well!). It's the wind. Spent 10 days near the boat earlier in June, all day sunshine but only got out on the last day (out of desperation) because it had been F5 - 7, gusting to 8-9 all the time we were there.

Graham, that sucks! Hope it gets better for you in the coming months...
