I have noticed some visible exhaust coming from my captains call ports even with them closed. It is clear and looks like vapor, not like smoke. Is this normal? It has been cooler this weekend and that might be it. Are the butterfly hinges supposed to keep ALL exhaust from coming out the side?

I just pulled my captain's call and no, the butterflies will not keep all the exhaust from coming out the transom.

My dealer says that is steam from water coming into contact with the hot stainless steel.

It's exhaust (and maybe steam). With the captains call diverters you will get exhaust from both the prop and thru hull. The diverter is basically a flimsy piece of metal inside the exhaust pipe. It doesn't take much pressure for it to get moved and then exhaust leaks out.

Corsa makes two other types of diverters, Quick and Quiet and Quick and Quiet Plus. If I'm reading the website correctly the Plus model should seal nearly completely.

I have the Capns Call on my boat and I dislike. Gets annoying when you are just cruising and want to visit. (yes at times it sounds cool) but for the large part it's annoying to me. I'm trying to find a place in town that can either seal up the capns call diverter (100% thru prop) or replace it with Quick and Quiet Plus.

I pulled mine because I had one side 'stuck' open. After pulling it apart I found the shaft the butterfly is attached to split into 2 pieces. I contacted Corsa and the replacement shaft kit, which contains one for each side plus a couple of other things, was $150. I got some elbows from a local shop and installed them instead, and then capped the transom with 4" rubber caps from Home Depot. After this season I will see if I can find a place to patch the transom holes and be done with the captain's call completely.

Bullgator...can you post some pics? That sounds exactly like what I want to do but it'd help with a visual aid.

The boat is at the shop at the moment, but as soon as I get it back I will take some pics and post them up.

Mine's headed to the shop tomorrow. I talked to them later today and he sounded like it should be a pretty easy job to cap the exhaust to the side hull.

I know how he's going to cap the rubber hose to the side hull but I'll be curious how he takes care of the Y joint.

They came up with a unique but simple fix. They are going to spray foam the inside of the black hose to the side hull. We'll open the valve to the prop and then unhook the solenoid.

Gotta say it seems like a decent fix. Best of all if I ever want to sell it the exhaust can easily be re-enabled by removing the foam.

Now the spray foam is a good idea. Personally I like the Captains Call but even if I didn't I would find it hard to destroy what is close to a $3,000 option. I do plan to sell my boat some day>
