Has anyone used "Lucas oil stabilizer" in their boat. I have used it for years in my big trucks but wonder if it will be useful with 40w oil. My boat is a 88 freedom 160 with no hour meter. It runs good, and I want to protect it so I can enjoy it for a few more years.

I use Lucas Fuel additives religiously in the boat, car, lawn mower. On my Full Size Bronco I used an oil additive for a few years. Upon tearing down the engine for rebuild (302 ci)I saw so much gunk and build-up in the rocker section I swore NEVER to use an oil additive again. I use straight synthetic on the boat and 'voy. My other fords will get plain Pennzoil 10W-40 (302 ci Roller/Rocker cam).

Just remember, a diesel lugs at pretty low turns; whereas a boat is usually in the 3k plus RPM range, depending on use. It's not uncommon for me to run 30 min or longer at 5000 RPM. Bear that and operating temp in mind when selecting viscosity.

IMHO, the only oil additive I would use in a boat is alittle ZDT additive, if you have an older engine with cam/flat tappets.
