I picked out what I think is the best location to mount my magma grill and I could use some feedback. The fiberglass isn't the thickest in that part (somewhere around 1/8th). Would it be better to use a piece of aluminum or wood as a backing plate? The plate can only fit in the size of the hole for the cup holder, so that's going to be it's size.

Here's the spot I picked that works out the best. Easy to get at when on the boat, and easy to get at without getting on the boat when beached.

I would use a backer plate. As big as you can get

Here is where I mounted the same grill mount and it worked out well. No additional support is required here. Plus, it will double as a flag holder.
