ok ok ok, I get it.

So a thru hull should be fine. On the 2000 H180 there's nowhere to mount the pump below the inlet, the only place is under the rear jump seats, where the battery is or where the hyd pump is for the outdrive. So I guess the secret is use a good stainless thru hull, quality sealants (3m), good clamps and overly strong hoses. I shouldn't have to worry about shutting off the valve every time? AND since my boat is in the water 24x7 add a second automatic bilge pump just for safety on it's own fuse and wiring as a backup.

This might just be too over the top to not use a bucket. The only place to put a thru hull on would be UNDER the boat so I'd have to use the strainer type, not the side as it's not accessible by any storage/engine area unless it's thru the transom next to the drain valve.

LOL.... are we getting thru to ya yet?

I thought about this same project, and I think on a boat this size, you hit the nail on the head.... a bucket or good sized cup works fine for rinsing the boat. I would take the money saved, and put it towards stereo upgrades, transom lighting, or other bling instead.

Or you could just get one of those Whale submersible pumps with a hose attached ( they're about 3 -4 US gallons per minute), fit a cigarete lighter plug or crocodile clips to the cables and chuck it over the side (the pump that is, not the whole lot !)

I most certainly think tapping into the raw water system is a bad plan. Even your well thought out plan seems like a bad idea. Pull the boat, properly install a thru hull with a sea strainer and be done with it.

I venture to say that doing it with the right stuff, the right way will be no more work or expense than cobbling something together.

No worries about thru hull leaks if done right. My boat doesn't sink and it's got one for the AC and the Generator....it's not really a concern.

Actually I don't even need one. I just use the wet towels from a day on the water and wipe it down and sop up any accumalation in bilge. My boat has never spent night on water though. Actually it has never spent night outside if uncovered.

It's cause it's white flooring, it shows EVERYTHING. If it was covered with plasdeck or something of similar fashion it would turn my bi-weekly scrub to a once every week or two. One day.
