2005 H260 has 209 hours. I bought it 2 years ago with 123 hours on it.

That same year I sold my 1975 Delta 18' Trihull w/ 302 Merc. That boat had ~1,400 hours on when the hour meter stopped working ~15 years ago. She never had any major engine/outdrive work done. As previously stated, you can get a long life out of these engines with the proper care.

Boats are no different then cars (motorcycles too) in the retrospect of hours. If you own a car and drive it weekly, it starts right up and runs great all the time. If you let your car sit and use it once a month, it's always going to have problems.

To me, when I see an older boat with low hours... that = sat in driveway half 99% of it's life never maintained, and the other 1% it was beat up and abused around a lake.

Ric, I see what you're saying about usage being better for them. However there is quite a difference. Marine engines don't get "rest periods" like car engines do when coasting down hills. Also when cars are going up hills they have transmissions to select a gear that is more "comfortable" for the work the engine has to do. When cruising a marine engine has to work harder than it's counterpart in a car. With proper care and maintenance one should still get several thousand hours out of a marine engine.

'06 V258 bought in '09 with 24 hours. Now at 144. I agree with others, if you're looking, I'd be focused less on the overall number or hours (high or low) and more on how the boat was used. Ours is a "low hours" boat, but not because its unused. To the contrary, we use it almost every weekend in season. We just choose to take a couple of cruises each day, one in the morning, one usually in the evening. The rest is spent at anchor swimming, listening to music, hanging with friends.
