Dolphin,

I'm looking to purchase this same Kenwood receiver for my boat, but I am unsure about one thing... Does the Kenwood allow you to select from playlists from USB thumb drives inserted into the front face plate? I ask because we have ZERO internet coverage at our lake, and no radio coverage either... so we need a way to catalog and play our very large music library using playlists.

Thanks!

Satellite radio works for me. If you've got sky you've got signal. You can also suspend the service during the winter months.

Me, I prefer letting someone else be the DJ instead of having to fiddle with my own playlists. I've got over 15k tracks of music and still find it simpler to just use Sirius or Pandora at home via Sonos and the internet.

This also helps avoid putting up with the absolutely horrendous ways various radio head units handle playing media tracks.

I bought the Alpine CDA-118M head unit and from a recommendation from here. I cannot say enough about it. Easy to attach and Ipod, I phone, thumb drive etc. Paired with a pair Alpine amps and and Polk Audio speakers and it is outstanding. I thought about Sirius, and may still get a docking station since my wife has portable unit, but our 4 girls have each made play lists for the boat Ipod, so they have some input into what get's played on the boat as well.

Grew up with Jimmy Buffet on the sailboat so it's a natural, Jack Johnson is awesome and has the same nautical feel.
Craig Morgan, Brad Paisley, Travis Tritt.
Gordon Lightfoot, Stan Rogers, Great Big Sea, Irish Rovers, Bruce Myers.

Love the CP Cortez with Warren Haynes. Never launched with it. Will give it a try. I usually end up pissing everybody else off with my high percentage of DMB tunes on my playlists. Try Captain or Big Eyed Fish when you are sitting in the rain or it gets close to nap time on the boat. Bust out Halloween while skiing or tubing (not with the kiddies though).

Country classics are fun. Norah Jones at lazy times. The soundtrack to Shrek also has really good songs that seem to go well with boating. That Oh Yeah song from Ferris Bueller is fun. Lyle Lovett If I Had Boat works, and Million Miles Away by the Plimsouls gets the "I love that song!" response from some of us 40 something's.
