Some of you have probably seen me bashing my local dealers service department and they ULTRA slow process. I wanted to update on my drive leaking down situation.

I called and made an appt for last Monday to drop off. I clearly indicated why I had been upset about my previous service with them and how long they had my boat. I simply said I wouldnt go through that again. I told him the problem, he made an assumption of what it would be. He checked parts inventory for the parts and agreed that it could be done within a week, if not less. So, with that, I agreed to bring it to them. As planned, I dropped it off first thing Monday morning...in the rain, through rush hour traffic, but it is what it is. Their service dept is closed on Mondays, but they still "receive" service boats as needed. On Tuesday morning, he called to let me know he had the boat and would get on it as soon as he could. I had to call there Wednesday to ask a question about my trailer. On that call, I asked if they had a chance to look at the boat. His reply was they already replaced the trim pump and they just wanted to observe it to make sure it had not leaked down for a couple days. On Thursday, he called and said it was ready to go. I picked it up on Friday and it seems ok so far. You can see where they used a Sharpie to mark the trim cylinders to see if it was leaking down or not. If its not fixed, I cant say they didnt live up to their end of the deal. There were no external fluid leaks so other than just replacing the pump, options are limited.

On a side note, I ran into Impulse at the shop and got to see the scar on his arm...ouch!

It's nice to hear about it when a dealer tries to do the right thing.

Glad things worked out for you so far. Now let's hope the weather shapes up for the upcoming long weekend. So far the weather reports are looking dicey with 30% isolated thunderstorms.

Well....they tried - turns out its not fixed. I cant say they didnt do what made the most sense to repair. I am waiting on a call back on what the next step is.

At any rate, its still usable. I will be in the water Wednesday night, probably Friday night and for sure on Sunday (weather permitting of course).

With no external leaks and a new pump assy., that pretty much just leaves the cylinders to blame.

Crap, that sucks. Pluck and chuck I guess. They should cover it under warranty of course, but I know it sucks to give up your boat for another week especially with the weather getting so good now.

Yep...I am off this afternoon so I plan to be in tonight. With any luck, will be in on Friday night and of course all day Sunday.

They called me yesterday and said they would try to figure something out today and get back to me.

So they had the boat for a week. In that time they replaced the pump, and let it set for a couple days to make sure they fixed the issue. You pick it up and it isn't fixed. How long did it have to set before the problem reappeared?

Doesn't seem to make sense. Or does it have to sit for a week or more to have the problem appear? Wonder if you raised the drive and took the "lower" lines off for a day or two with a drip pan under and see if oil leaks out of one of the cylinders, that should indicate if one of them is leaking internally.

They say the repair was made on Wednesday. I picked up on Friday. I looked at it on Sunday before heading to the lake. At that time, it had leaked down about .5 to .75 on the cylinder.

The service writer called me back today. He said he has another boat in there with the EXACT same problem and they have already replaced the trim pump in it as well. He has a call into the local Volvo Field Service Rep to try to get some advice on what they want to do next. Since my boat is operational, I am not planning to take it back until they get a resolution on the other boat.

I will keep everyone updated. You may want to mark your trim rams with a sharpie to see if they are leaking down slightly. I am sure this is not an isolated incident now. He said it was a different boat, but has the same engine/drive combo.

What engine/drive combo do you have?
