Wanted to get some quick opinions...I changed the oil last summer and only put on 25 hours after the oil change before winter. Do you think I should change the oil again before firing it up for the year or am I okay to wait until mid-summer? I used the VP synthetic. I'm kind of on the fence with this.

Thanks!

This is just going to be opinions, but I would change it.

Change it. A lot of condensation could have taken place over the course of the winter. Oils cheap!

Change the oil, an ounce of prevention, plus its cheaper than replacing the engine 8)

What if the boat was kept in inside heated storage? I've got the same situation.

I agree, change the oil. What we forget sometimes that boat engines work a lot harder than our car engines. How often do you drive your car at 3500 RPMs for 30min or more, Or how many times do you coast down hill in your boat.

It's cheap insurance.

+1 on the change. If you ever are questioning whether it should, go ahead and go for it.

I agree with the above, seeing as how it sat with that oil over the winter, I'd run it to get it nice n warmed up and then change it. Boats run cool to start with, the automotive version of this engine runs at 195-210, these run at only 160, so there is more chance for sludge build up.

Opinions ????? Don't change it if it was inside heated storage. If outside stored, change it. That's my story , and I'm sticking to it. :|

And if you change your oil as part of your winter layup? Change it again in the spring? The advice I've always gotten locally is change in the fall as part of winterizing.

Yup. That's what I do too. I previously changed the oil before even starting the engine in spring, with condensation concerns, etc. Never got even a drop, or any indication of moisture in the oil.
With the FW, I've been changing late in the summer so as to have a few outings before winterizing. This way, I know everything is functioning correctly (oil, filter, H2O pump, drive fluid) before putting her away, in the drive way outside in the midwest... all winter long! Just ran her on the muffs this weekend for about 30 min... warmed up quick, and locked in at Norm op temp. Played with my Rinda analyzer too... cool toy! 8)

I too changes oil about 25 hrs ago and i use vp synthetic...it's not free, but not something to skimp on. I too have a 2008 model and will be changing mine before 1st launch. I also will be swapping the outdrive oil....it's too easy to do to not

My delima is the impellor....it was changed 25 hours ago and only used in fresh water. I am in the air over it.

Question for the crowd that changes the oil in the spring because of condensation concerns...don't you have to run the engine for 10-15 minutes to get the oil warmed up so you can get it out easily? And aren't all the moving parts pretty well coated with the old oil by that point?

Just wondering. I've always changed mine in the fall so I'm ready to go in the spring. That process seems to be the norm in this area. I guess the important thing is that it gets changed and everyone will have their own opinion of the right time to change it.
