FINALLY got the 12v DC 24" 1080p LED HDTV mounted. A big storm was coming so I didn't get a chance to tuck the wires away behind the bulkhead. Nothing like watching movies while camped out for the night. Power draw is 42w, so I have a good 10+ hours of TV on the 2nd battery. Eventually I might wire it direct to the aircon's battery bank if my mechanic ever gets that installed.. For "In Boat" entertainment we use HDMI adapters for the smartphones, either streaming netflix/amazon prime or downloaded torrents. Considering purchasing a slingbox so we can watch live TV when football season starts.

Hey Ric,
I have Dish Network at home, with the Sling Box. From the smart phone I can watch live TV and anything recorded by the DVR. Works really good if you can pick up 4G service. Has reduced picture quality on 3G.

AWESOME! Yeah we got 4g LTE everywhere I boat. I'll have to get one.

Tomorrow! (If the weather holds out)

Going to mount the control box behind the bulkhead and AC controls flush to it, and run the wires/hoses along there to the back. I want to make the install as small as possible, but I want it up on the bench so I can create a feature I really like from Monterey cuddys, the interior bar top which I think all cuddys should have. Total seating/sleeping space lost? 1ft in length and the width of the bench seat... so nothing.

Example:

My mechanic called me at 2pm and said, let's install some A/C!! Not the best day to do it cause it's Drinko De Mayo... but beggars can't be choosers.

Total time? 4 lazy hours. Hardest part? Screwing in the inverter. If only the pump was 1in shorter for a picture perfect install :( Took 5 minutes to bring the inside temp from 78 to 62. In 30 minutes it was in the 50's. I kicked on automatic mode and the heat brought it up to a comfortable 74. It's currently on shore power my batteries won't be in until thursday, my father is bringing them he has two 230ah 6v spare brand new, and he's a craftsman he's going to take a template to make the enclosure. I also forgot to plumb the drip pan to the bilge, oops. Also a local place for under $100 will redo the alternator to 120a. All I need to purchase now is just some wire to make battery cables, and an isolator.

It's nearly dead silent. Once the enclosure is made I'm going to line it with dynamat. I'm going to run 2 vents. One long skinny one to my feet area in the cockpit under the helm, and one inside. Im going to track down the dark carpet used for the sides of the enclosure and going to install a corian countertop. You'll never know it wasn't factory. My broker already wants to list the boat for 26k.

Only ran 7min 30 seconds in one hour set to 70*. I timed it. On battery this will easily last all night (15 hours)

The whole boat needs a good detail, but detail isn't in the budget right now. Need to finish upgrades/repairs.

Sounds like it would be nice to add an Hour Meter to the A/C to help keep track of battery usage.

Ok I see a blue box that is under the cockpit. What I am wondering is why can't you mount the AC unit under the drivers feet is there something there? Can you take better pic of the spot of the blue box in this pic that area. Is it a storage area? Access to under the cockpit? I'm curious. Are you sure there is not a dead space large enought for the AC under the cockpit deck so that you don't lose cabin space? Me being over 6' every inch of bed is needed. And I would not like loosing bed area. I'm just curious and puzzled that there is no room to mount the unit under the cockpit, and save cabin space along with reduced noise and heat. I have been on multiple boats under 25' with AC and they have them under the cockpit. That is how we mounted my buddies AC in his 23' sea ray.

Just tossing an idea out before you dove in and loose space that is already minimal and space is a premium on boats. If you can utaliZe dead air space behind that wall under the helm floor that's what I would do.

I wanted to keep the boat as factory as possible, and putting the AC under the cockpit meant I had to get rid of the porti potti. When I goto resell this boat it will get very negative comments about how can a cuddy with AC, TV, battery system, etc... built for weekends on the water.. not have a toilet.

That's not an option so instead I went with the Monterey style of doing things and making a bar top feature. The cabin on a 215ss is huge, bigger than a 2005 Sundowner 225. No space was lost.

When I'm not using the porti potti the cooler sits down there so it's not taking up cockpit floor space on a normal weekend(the blue box). The factory cooler sat under the sink, which I had to ditch to store the magma grill.

oh ok i didnt know that thats where the head was located.. i still believe there is negative space under cockpit that could have been used for the AC.. hard to get a feel for the size from the pics.. just seems like cabin is about 7' long total.. and in my mind the ac would eat alot the bed area in my mind..

The cabin is 7ft long and about that wide at the back. The AC takes 1ft of length and 2ft of width. I sleep on the port side so I don't even notice its there. The GF is short so no issue on her side. I wanted it under the cockpit but the massive fuel tank sucks up every bit of room. 56 gallons. The only available space is used by the john.

When I enclose it I might be able to get a few more inches by cutting the bulkhead.
