All these arguments about climate are a moot point. We are currently in an ice age during an interglacial period so there are times it warms up and there are times it cools down. The worst that might happen is CO emissions from humanity might prematurely end the current ice age a few million years sooner than expected. What happens when the ice age is over? Nothing. Completely normal in the life of planet Earth. No fire. No brimstone. No tidal waves. No solar flares. Everything will be okay.

What do you do in Florida when it's 80's in the winter?

You goto a bar made of ice to cool down!

Mmmmmmm........Don't need to go to a novelty bar to find ice around here in Minneapolis. This morning we saw 20 degrees farenheit below zero ......again. I believe that makes more than 65 days this winter with temps that dipped below zero at least for part of the day. A friend in Anchorage, AK, says we are way colder than they are. I am sure there are places on this earth that are colder than Minneapolis this winter,......but it just doesn't seem like it.

Weird isn't it? My father lives in Jacksonville a 2 hour drive north and it's easily 20 degrees colder on average. I literally live in a bubble of heat, probably cause I'm going to hell.

Having driven around that area I have to say it's the most beautiful country I've ever seen. I couldn't imagine boating there.

The best part of Lake mead...I was only in a very small part of it (went out fishing...got skunked) So all those pics (except the ramp) were from one spot! and less than 1% of the lake, and it's all at least that beautiful.

Chris,

We are talking about coming over to Lake Mead for the Thanksgiving week........We would be staying in our Motorhome...is there a good place to RV camp and dock the boat or would I need to pull the boat out everyday?

There are places, but the lake being as far down as it is...you camp quite a distance from the shore.

I like Callville bay http://callvillebay.com/destination/marina/ because it's fairly close to Vegas and is full service, they have a marina, campgrounds, restaurant, etc. Also centrally located on the most used part of the lake. Courtesy slip is $15 a night

My second choice would be Temple Bar on AZ side http://templebarlakemead.com/ One of the most beautiful places on earth IMO...

You can boat to either, just realize how far it is, there are no gas stations...or even civilization, between the two.

There are several other places, my input is, Hemmingway is just a ramp...and not very steep so I have to get my truck very far in the water to launch...and no camping there.

Las Vegas boat harbor is fine, but as far as I know no campsites.

Echo bay marina has been closed for a while, no services there gas etc...so I have never been.

Important things to remember about this lake...don't go to far without knowing you have enough gas, water level is almost 70' down so keep a look out for rocks sticking out of the water, the wind is more of a factor on this lake, nothing to slow it down, and ALWAYS have extra water...it gets very hot, and the lake is 550 miles of shoreline with only about 5 developed areas.

You'll have a great time, it's the best lake ever.

The whole thing is basically a canyon. It's just mostly filled with water. But the narrows is a little like riding through the grand canyon, on a much smaller scale...

look at this video

not mine, but good view. you can also see clearly the bathtub ring...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geQvr9LJVMU

and that's JUST the narrows

Lake Mead is 112 miles (180 km) long when the lake is full, has 759 miles (1,221 km) of shoreline, is 532 feet (152 meters) at greatest depth, with a surface elevation of 1,221.4 feet (327.3 metres) above sea level, and has 247 square miles (640 km2) of surface, and when filled to capacity, 28 million acre-feet (35 km3) of water. However, the lake has not reached this capacity since 1983 due to increasing droughts

Ok, so now it is my life's goal to get to lake mead some day. Gonna suck trailering there from PA though! Video of the narrows was beautiful, but I may have liked the second video better! :D
