The bimini top I ordered arrived yesterday. It looks nice in the box with the Sunbrella canvas along with the stainless fittings and braces. However, they only supplied 90-degree hinges for mounting on top of the deck. Looking at other Cobalt 246 boats with the tops already installed, the main mounting point is installed on the side like this:

I sent the retailer an email, hopefully they reply soon.

The company I ordered the bimini from has been really helpful. He recommends I order a set of these quick release hinges from Accon Marine for the front mounting point. I ordered a second pair for the rear strut braces too so they match. Hopefully I will be able to do the install next weekend.

My new boat has those for the rear braces. Very nice, super quick to install and remove without tools. I took my Bimini completely off to tow it.

Do they seem pretty sturdy?

Same here. Got out for a little bit last Saturday. This is the first weekend we haven't had crap to do and it's going to be 55 all weekend.

Hoped to get out tonight at least. Yesterday was awesome but I was stuck with other plans. Now the forecast is going to S&^%. Thunderstorms forecasted for this afternoon and tonight. 3-5 footers on Lake Michigan tomorrow. Cold and more crappy weather Sunday. I went out and wiped the boat off early today just to feel like I was spending time on it :( At least it's pollen free for a few hours!

I had a 2012 VXR, damn that thing was fun...and fast!

In other news...two boating weekends have been cancelled because of rain. I haven't even pulled it out of storage yet. :(
