A really good day turned sour.

Took delivery of my new jet ski. It was a demo with 5 hours already broken in, got 2k off MSRP with 5 year warranty.

292hp jet ski, it's insane. So I was riding it across Lake Monroe at WOT (no speed limit) and before I could even think I almost flew over the handlebars. Smacked my jaw in the handlebars, crushed a finger, scratched my sunglasses. The ski's driveshaft disintegrated and I went from 70 to 0 in about 20 ft. Got a tow back by some nice guys on skis and went right back to the dealership. They never seen anything like it, factory defect. They're going to talk to Yamaha Monday to see about getting me a new ski shipped over.

Now, here's my thing. I'm not the kinda guy that sues but I'm in a lot of f***ing pain and my jaw is swollen around my chin. My head hurts and my ears are ringing who knows maybe even have concussion. Probably should goto the hospital.

Ric,
A bad string of luck Buddy.
Glad you didn't get hurt more seriously.
Should probably get it checked out at Urgent Care or ER.

Best wishes,
Doug

Ric, something doesn't add up here. A shaft failure would be not too different than just hitting the kill switch. 70 to 0 in 20 feet would exert so much g-force, you'd be in the hospital if not the morgue.

That is bad luck Ric, you should go get yourself checked out. Glad to hear the dealership is taking care of the ski. Do you have any photos of the new ride prior to the incident?

Went to ER, got CT and Xrays. I've got a concussion and a lot of body pain I can barely move, no broken bones. When the shaft broke the center of balance instantly changed the ski nose dived.

292hp stock.

That sounds like a pretty serious hull design flaw if a sudden loss of thrust causes a nose dive.

However, maybe the broken shaft triggered the reverse cups. I saw a buddy get thrown over the handlebars when he deployed the reverse cups at around 50 mph. (I has having fun doing it at 25-30 mph, and was amazed at how fast the stop was. I told him about it, and so what does he do? he tries it at 50. ) Deploying the reverse cups at speed lifts the back up and pushes the nose down.

It's the camera/light. It's a really nice deep metallic red. I'm not a fan of red but that's the only color 2015 models come in. I'll eventually have the top half vinyl wrapped anthracite

At least you were not seriously injured from that. Scary situation to have happen. Hopefully the dealership takes care of you for that nightmare.

Dealer sales manager just text me: "The coupler on the shaft stripped for some reason. Yamaha overnighted all parts to repair."

Consulting a lawyer this afternoon. I've got medical bills, missing 2 days of work, pain, and my ray bans that I love so much have a nice scratch down the middle of the lens annoying as hell.

I got 10K for a bruised lung and 3 bruised ribs from getting rear ended a couple years ago. Insurance handled it all. i was laid up at the house for a day and the heavy horse pills for a week. i could early breath. at 3 am when the wife took me to the hospital they gave me morpohine. ... By the way if you ever get direct morphine shot, it feels like battery acid pumping thru your veighns for 3-5 minutes then it is HEAVEN.

Step one - hospital
Step two - lawyer
Step three - manufacturer of ski and part.

Tell whomever is looking at it that you want pictures of damage and all parts they find. Keep those. Take a few days off work. Take pictures of your injuries. find a nice doctor to agree your jaw "may" not heal right and cause you lifelong pain/unattractive scarring/emotional trauma.

The good news? All the pain you have now is going to get you a boat of your dreams, all paid off. Maybe a good down payment on a house as well.

Fentanyl. Fentanyl and Versed. Fentanyl's a painkiller in the morphine class (No meds ever stop the pain, they just make you care about it less) that does not cause the issues morphine does. and Versed is a great anti-anxiety drug that has a decent amnesic effect. Not only do you not have pain, you forget about it.
