I'm sure the same was said about remote start in cars. It's an amazing idea and 100% safe. Imagine a factory installation on a cruiser with a custom built remote... Built in delay.. once start button is activated it runs blower for 4 minutes then starts engine(s). Add in an additional button for generator on/off if so equipped.

I mean come on.. how is it not genius? If you're tied off to a dock like me.. easily start it up while walking onto dock, let it warm up while loading cooler, etc.

Seriously, what's the difference between sitting at the helm or standing 20ft away on dock to start the engine? None. It's just easier and convenient.

by the time I start my engine and get past the"No wake" zone my engine is up to temp and ready to open up. so i see no need for one at all when you idle in gear for 10 mins or so

I've been reading articles on iboats and other forums.. one installer has claimed to have done a dozen or so at his shop on boats. No issues except on outboards that require prime.

Interesting, but really I wouldn't want a remote start on my boat. I do listen for the blower to come on and I want to watch my oil pressure gauges and temperature gauges rise to where I feel they should be while I wait for a couple minutes for engines to warm up.

Now in our winter months (below freezing temps) I could see a reason for a remote car start to warm the car and defrost windows from the comfort of my house while car is in driveway. :)

Mike.

Hadn't the fad of remote start car's passed - along with under car neon lights & carbon fibre wings? :?
It's a ricer mod to impress your less mechanically minded mates, IMO.

Ok so this is just useless jabber filling in time cause a lot of us are waiting till spring to get the boats out....but here is my 2 cents. If Ric if you have nothing better to spend you money on, to make everyone happy and to make it safe wire in an air switch which will close a set of contacts and then a delay on make timer that will start the boat after 4 min
There new subject please!!!!!!!

I got a remote start system one year for Christmas.

I took it back for a refund. Junk!

I only heat my house with firewood, oil only burned for hot water. I use 350 gallons a year in heating oil. and I get my firewood for free so my chainsaw and log splitter gets a ton of use....
more money for boating and motorcycling

As did I when lived in Maine. We remodeled late 1800's house, only thing 1800's was the wood frame. Couldn't tear it down cause it was on a stream and if the house was torn down, it was too close to the water to be rebuilt due to some laws. Made it 100% modern. The wood stove in the kitchen would heat the whole house nicely and only fired up the oil burner when a cold snap came in. Usually just running to the store to grab 5 gallons of kerosene would do it for a while. I lived in no-where Maine, firewood was always free just pull over somewhere :)

...miss living there. Boating in the lakes was amazing
