Be careful what you post Mr.thundercat. Just sayin'.....
I am asking about your insurance experience, because it could be helpful to other members (myself included) to know if a particular insurance company is problematic at paying claims. ( I have progressive, which is very popular, but probably not great at paying claims...I don't know ).
On the other hand, if your drives were 15 years old, I wouldn't expect them to pay the price for brand new, but did they pay enough to cover decent used replacements and labor? That's all I am asking.
I have a premium named price payout policy. One for the boat and the other for the trailer. The 38 special is a 1992 ( I have the first one ever made). But, the engines, drives and all were replaced and upgraded in 2001. The ECM's show 174.3 hours when checked last fall and it's had less than 2 hours since.
The depreciate 10% per year on partial. That means nothing paid, but they are willing to be generous and pay 15% of MSRP for parts and 100% of labor.
Now if I put a hole in the boat, that would be great! All labor and very little parts. I can hang 2 outdrives in about an hour.
The dealers down here are lazy and somewhat crooks. I went to a non-dealer and after he was 45 minutes late opening, you got the part of a 38ft powerboat and a crew cab dually right? The cops had to escort me to a park for the extra time as there was no where to park with the gate locked.
Anyways, he charged me 85 dollars for the bid which I did not even dream of asking before I went there. wow....
When he gave me the bid it looked like crap. Just a excel sheet printed with out any information as to the boat, part numbers nothing. Then the dip stick did not even put on the Bravo One Props that were less than two years old or the K-Plane cable that is at least 23ft long. Plus he would not put on the bellows they tore up or the switches that the wires were cut on. He was going to put the old part back in with more glue. OMG!!!
I have tried with multiple dealers to pay them to come to the boat, ( I know 7 miles is asking a lot), and they all want me to leave the boat for at least a couple of days to bid something that is gone off of the boat. There was some additional damage like the K-plane cable bent and broke, but that takes all of 30 seconds to see.
The Premier Mercury Dealer for this area was going to give me a bid and told me to bring it down. Well when you have a large boat, you tend to have an idea where you are going with it before you move it. I went down and looked at there parking lot and they said it would only take an hour or less to actually look at it. Then I told them that I would be blocking their whole parking lot and the customers inside, (they have a place for parts bigger than West Marine and busy) the whole time because of the size of their lot.
Then he said take some pictures and some information and he could do it that way. A week later, he sent me an email saying they could not do it and had to have the boat. So, I called them and they wanted me to leave it with them for a couple to several days.
WHAT??!! Then in the discussion, he tries to tell me that there is not a sleeve for the bellows in a BRAVO drive..

He tried to tell me I did not know what I was talking about. Now, I am not exactly stupid in this area as I am an Sr. Engineer in both Aerospace and Automotive.
The insurance company gave me the option of having a surveyor sent out by them for the bid. I don't know if I would trust one hired by them. They tried to tell me that he would represent me. Not so sure about that one.
I know one thing for sure, I am getting pissed off more by the day and I have somewhere around 22k worth of parts missing and damage that someone should be picking up a good percent of. I guess if they don't start making this easier, they can pay my lawyer also.
