I have a dual battery setup as well and have used it when I've killed one battery and have been able to charge the other after starting off of the good battery. The need for the jump pack comes in when you mistakenly leave the switch in the "Both" selection and kill both batteries by accident. Don't ask how I know that one.

Jump pack is neither large nor heavy.

We have a place up on Middle Bass Island , All the ferries are supposedly booked up , they are adding extra ferries(Miller) to the island, Hotels are packed, People all over the island are renting out there houses for the event. pretty crazy. The island will make a fortune the next couple of weekends. Technologic you will have a great time, Have you ever been to Put-in-bay? Crazy drunk fest over there. you will see all sorts of things .

I just swapped it out with the 12V plug in the cabin with this. Now the wife and I can charge up both phone with just a USB cable. No need to take the charger along.

Cool!! Small world!

Yeah the last time I was at PIB was 2006 with my 258 Vista (at the time). We went during an off-time and it was d-e-a-d on the island!

This past weekend was the polar opposite

First two nights, stayed at Kelleys after trying to find dockage at PIB and failing. Second time to Kelleys too. It was packed. We got to Kelleys early Saturday and went on a ferry to PIB Sunday... I have never seen any island so packed in my life.

About a month ago, we made reservations for the PIB yacht club and stayed there Monday-Tuesday. Nobody else would take reservations due to the holiday weekend/bicentennial celebration. It was all first come, first serve.

Fortunately, I didnt need my emergency items from my kit at all...lol. However, today the southern part of Lake Erie threw 4-6' waves at us and it was slow going with ALL trim all the way down. Even going 17mph with the tabs down, drives down, Lake Erie threw us around quite a bit. Got past middle sister island and it was night and day. Wind subsided and 2' waves. Detroit River was flat as glass, Lake St Clair was maybe .5' chop.

All in all, another great troublefree trip on the Vista 278!

Technologic. Glad you made it safely. Ya the islands have been busy lately. It's hard to move over at put In bay at times. It's funny how the waves can change so fast up there.

I found that 5' waves are good for 'something'.... I finally found the leak in my port side dinette portlight, LOL.

Came home, took off the stainless steel ring, and found all of the caulk had fallen out. Rebedded it nice and good, put back together. Thanks Lake Erie! haha

We also ran our boat this past July from Lake St.Clair down into Lake Erie. We stayed at Millers Marina in Put-In-Bay and also visited Ceder Point Marina to take in the 4th of July fireworks.

Lake Erie was rough for us on our trip over and returning. Lake Erie taught us that we should have a safety chain or cable on our windlass in addition to the "guillotine" safety mechanism that comes with the windlass. The heavy waves somehow pulled the anchor out of our windlass a bit. The "guillotine" safety bar either got flipped up by waves pushing upward on the chain or the "guillotine" was not totally set properly. Don't know for sure.

We now have two safety cables on our windlass. In looking at various boats at Cedar Point marina with windlasses I noticed at least 50% of the boats had a seperate safety chain/cable or another rope tying off the windlass.
