If you can, get a hold of an original OMC shop manual, there are some on E-bay....
The thing with the Cobras, is that there were never that many techs who really knew how to set up the shift cable. I had mine done about 10 years ago and it was fine till the adjustment on the remote cable changed a bit so I decided to learn how to do it myself. Took about 3-4 hrs to figure out the system, took the drive off, checked everything and by the time I was done, it shifted better than when I got it back from the shop back in '04. It is not hard but there are certain special tools that are needed (not expensive) and you have to follow the steps to get it right.
Once they are set up right they shift very well and will last a long time.

It seems that with the right video help I could learn how to fix it. However, this guy and his son claim to be experts on OMC's so lets see how it works out. I have been burned by mechanics on the lake before so I do not have a high level of trust at this point.

Anyway thanks for the feed back. i will let you know how this mechanic works out.
