Before or after we attest to our own war crimes?

What, Guantánamo Bay and Abu Ghraib? That is nothing but advanced fraternity hazing. If you really want an education on war crimes and atrocities, google up some of Saddam Hussein's torture videos. These radical muslims have no respect for human life and should all be exterminated.

So we should stoop to their level?

This country is great, but it was founded on different principals than we practice today. We have constantly been scrutinized and put under the knife for questionable actions taken by our military and our "leaders" and for what? A few corporations to make a buck? I am not trying to demean anyone, but everyone needs to wake up as it comes to how our tax dollars are spent. When over 50% is sent to military and defense, and we have our own people starving and out of work(the ones that are not lazy and just trying to collect a check, that is), no state medical coverage, a piss poor public education system, a collapsing infrastructure, etc.... I start to question the need for such an offensive military force. I am not a conspiracy theorist, or a whack job; I am just a fairly educated(purchased) US citizen that has started to question our own country's morals, and what we are truly at war with everyone over. If they don't agree with us? Sheesh, get over it. I travel all over the world on business and therefore get to see most of this first-hand, as well as getting other country's biased news programming, so it's not that I am just talking out of my arse or on heresay. I have made my own ASSumptions and they are just that. If people don't agree with me and with my opinion, great! That's their choice as well... see everyone on the water :D

These pirates are not operating under any "rules" or "restrictions", or even "suggestions" for that matter. Do we really need to have our military doing nothing but patrolling the waters off the coast of Africa? I think not, especially since there is not an easy way to access their oil, or diamonds :). Arm all of the merchant, cargo, and pleasure ships to the hilt... and let them all battle it out. If the pirates think they can just board a ship because they are armed, let's see what happens the first time they get fired upon with a grenade launcher or {insert other cool weapon here}. I understand that the ports of call are going to have to agree with this, as they will be armed when they enter the country, but this piracy thing is getting ridiculous and it's just going to be a matter of time before more innocent people start to get hurt or killed. Hats off to those snipers that whacked those pirates though... I couldn't imagine how difficult it would have been to pull that off in rapid succession like that... not to mention the timing and a constantly moving target.

On that note, I sure wish the weather was going to be better this weekend so that I might go out and enjoy one of the benefits of being in a democratic capitalist society :D Since Lake Travis is about 25 feet low(maybe more by now), it's getting extremely dangerous to even get out of the main channel. There are sand bars and dangerous spots everywhere and I sure do need to relax soon. The weekends get a little too hectic when there isn't enough water in there to go around :)

Gotta Love Ron Paul..... hahahahah

I can't think of a better solution than letters of marque. Let's do it! There is the bond issue problem, though.

Any decent hunter with a scoped, bolt action, "large game" hunting rifle could easily protect those ships. You'd need to have low light cameras and all over the ships and maybe 3 riflemen.

"One shot, One kill" !!

I know I'm naive, but I don't get how a bunch of goofs buzzing around in a zodiac or whatever they have, with a 100 outboard can hijack freighters and sea-going vessels? Why isn't there a couple guys (like marshalls on some airlines) riding shotgun on ships that are steaming off Somalia? How do these brainless goons actually get on these ships???

It's a long-held tradition and belief that maritime ships should be unarmed, for a number of valid reasons. However, I wouldn't be surprised if that's about to change.
