I did use 5 gallons on just the engine so I can see needing a lot for a big cruiser.

I try to buy a few at a time, leading up to the time that I do the final winterize. I fool myself this way ...... just spending $20 or $25 at a time .........

Our 248, I use less than 2 gallons of pink, that does entire fresh water system, (head and galley) by-pass the water heater, and do the A/C unit. I only drain the block and have done so on three boat we have owned. We only see temps around zero deg F for maybe a week. 2-3 months of just below freezing.

Our 35' 5th wheel with long runs of plumbing (by-passing water heater) I can do with just over 1 gallon.

Anti freeze companies love you guys!

Antifreeze is cheap, Engines, Fresh Water Systems, Air Conditioning Units are not! :)

I typically don't drain the engine, so that we can go out easily, if we want to, very late or very early in tthe season.

And

We have gray water tank and no overboard on eith ethe gray or black water tanks, so they take a bit more to assure that there is not enough water in them to freeze.

Reality check... so as I poured the pink I kept a tally:

-Seven gallons for fresh water system/head/shower sump
-Three gallons for generator
-Two and a half gallons for the A/C

OK, so I overbought a bit. Never hurts to have a few spare gallons around.

How'd you end up winterizing it?

I'm doing mine this week, and I was going to take the hose off the seacocks and stick them in a bucket full of pink and run the a/c until its through it, and the same with the gen.

For the genny and A/C I close the fresh water seacocks and use a contraption my friend fashioned that seals to the top of the strainer and has a hose that draws pink from a bucket. When the boat's out of the water I will open the seacocks.

Sounds good. Is it ok to just flush a gallon of pink down the head and mix that with the chemical I put in the tank? I've already got it pumped out for the winter...

Yes. Make sure pink travels through the water output in the head from the fresh water system. I leave a little pink in the bowl and also pour in a toilet seal lubricant and let it sit for the winter.

You mean the toilet water intake?

Whatever you would call the water that rinses the bowl when you flush or add water.
