Glad I was of some assistance! I will be making a trip like this next year. Did you feel rushed in ten days?

Great pics. Locking through 8 steps must have been pretty cool! Beautiful scenery as well. Thanks for sharing your trip!

Never been through a lock before

For us the only thing to remember is NOT to tie the lines..just hold them. Could be very bad otherwise!

Locks are very easy to use. The lockmasters are very helpful (and patient). It's very awe inspiring to feel your boat rise above the level behind you. The only time I had an issue was when they jammed us in like sardines because of the amount of boats waiting behind us. It's always smart to have lots of bumpers on both sides of your boat as you approach the lock because you never know what side they will put you on or if another boat will be wedged between you and the next boat. They recommend atleast two people to hold the boat.

Actually, it was pretty easy. Four days to do the Rideau and its 44 locks at a leisurely pace (thanks again for the tips). One full day to do the Ottawa River mostly wide open all the way down to Ste. Anne de Bellevue (with a stop for an outstanding lunch at Montebello). Another easy day to get through Lachine canal (and its 5 locks) to the Port of old Montreal. Next day back through the Lachine and then Beaunharnois Seaway Lock to Cornwall. Next day made it through the Eisenhower locks down to Brockville. Last day was an nice run through the Thousand Islands all the way back to Kingston. Everyone said to spend more time in the Thousand Islands as its beautiful, but by the end of the trip it was time to call it. Besides, our home water is Georgian Bay where its equally great scenery :D

Wait a minute - that's only nine days. Felt like ten.

One more thing. If you go, get all the charts. Lots of places you don't want to stray, some of the channels can be tricky, and its a small price to pay for peace of mind and relatively stress free cruising.
