Up in New Hampshire on Lake Winnipesaukee, best car station was $3.82/gallon. Filled the boat there. Dropped it in the water, and the two marina's near my slip were $4.32 and $4.39/gal. So, I figure that I saved around $25 filling her up off-lake. Unfortunately, that'll be the last time. But, with the $0.18/gal rebate for non-road tax vehicles, I will also be getting back $9 on each fill up as well.

Perfect post!! Great source of information. I've forwarded it onto a friend that drives a 35 Sea Ray.

Thanks

I just checked my marina website. The price of fuel increased yesterday to 5.64/gallon.

On a side note, there was a cruiser on my lake (different marina) that just had 120 gallons of fuel stolen out of it....that sucks!

It's official: I no longer envy you big water boaters. http://host.madison.com/sports/recreati ... 002e0.html

Quote:
Running most 30 to 35-foot family cruisers from Lake St. Clair to Cedar Point and back would consume about 150 to 200 gallons of gasoline. At today's marina prices of about $4.70 a gallon, that works out to $700 to $950, and some energy experts predict that trip will cost $800 to $1,100 before summer ends.

I could not imagine spending that kind of cash for a weekend boat trip. I think we need to elect more boaters to congress.

We ran our boat last summer during our annual two week boating vacation from Lake St.Clair to Cedar Point, but we also added stops at Maumee Bay, Kelly's Island and Put-In-Bay to make in worthwhile.

I wouldn't consider running that distance just for a weekend as I agree the cost for fuel is too much to justify.

Since this year's fuel cost is about 50% higher than last years, my wife and I are looking at spending approximately $1000.00 more in fuel this year if we continue to boat as much as last year.

Since our boating season here is really only 6 months long and it is what my wife, son and I enjoy doing, we will pay the fuel increase but will try to incorporate more into our longer distance trips and maybe do the longer trips a little less and take shorter trips more frequently to save on some fuel.

Mike.

Does anyone make a locking gas cap for boats? I have not seen one.

I am surprised they did not flood the market in 07 and 08.

Perko makes a locking insert. I have one.

http://www.marineengine.com/products/ac ... in=2820525

I didn't buy it from them, but was the first link that came up during a search.

How I wish we had fuel prices like yours....

Over the pond we are now paying about £1.33 per litre on the road and near enough £1.50 per litre at the marina pumps!!

Thats $2.15 on the road and $2.44 per litre at the marina!!

And just to put that further into perspective.... that is $8.14 on the road and $9.24 at the marina per gallon!!

Its just becoming obscene....! :(

Wow, $9.24 for a US gallon of gas. That would make me think a lot more about how far we boat as that equates to over $2000.00 for a full tank of fuel from empty for us. Our street price for gas here in Ontario, Canada sits presently at about $1.32 a litre. I would think gas price equivalent to $9.24 US gallon would really mess up our economy (further).

Mike.

At Beaverton Yacht Club it's $1.69 per litre for Shell premium,,,not too bad.

I look at it this way,,,I've never seen a Brinks truck following a hearse to the cemetary, so what the heck

My wife and I were At the lake this past weekend (Dale Hollow Lake), and we paid $4.27 for 89 octane gas! That is only about 40 cents more per gal. than it is at home at the local gas station  . At those prices I don't know if I should be happy or sad
