Woohoo, I just hit craigslist gold!

I'm going to pick up a minty 2003 Yamaha XL700 jetski for $500 (with title no trailer) because it has low compression in one piston. Between me and my neighbor that has the same ski and works on them for a living, he said we can fix it for around $100.

Sounds like another $10.50 project boat I vaguely remember hearing about......

Hey Mike, what do you think the over/under is on this new venture? Don't these young'ns ever learn???

My Grandpa mined coal in Kansas and taught me something I never forgot. If it seems too good to be true........(you know the rest)

It's shocking really, how much all the grandpa's of those days knew with the amount of education they had, compared to what so many young'ens can do today, with all the education they have...

Having a high GPA and 4 years of college doesn't mean you're smart. It just means you know how to read and memorize. Nothing to do with IQ or "common sense". Dumb people today are no different then dumb people 100 years ago. Has nothing to do with education.

Craigslist average resale of a 2002-4 Yamaha XL700 is 3000 to 4000. Okay so I have a total investment of $750 for $3500 jet ski and a few weekend hours of labor drinking beer in the garage working on it. Haters be hating.

I've got $5 on that the deal never goes through...meaning that something will happen and the ski will never run properly when owned by rickey. My grandfather said "a sucker is born every minute..."

Ric,

Relax. You know we are playing with you. You keep talking about taking your boat out and I'm looking at 6 inches of fresh snow. We've got to pick on somebody!

My point, which you missed, was that a whole bunch of people with 3rd grade educations accomplished more, with less, than most of today's well educated youth. Those of them who were actually dumb, at least knew it.

So talked to my buddy who runs the repair shop. He said don't mess with the engine, he has one laying around that runs and will just swap it for mine. He'll ring it and sell it on ebay. Or if I don't want the ski he's got $500 to give me right now.

Related to boating....

I got my wake tower, the $6000 OEM, stainless steel variety, on e-bay via Great Lakes Skipper for $1300 delivered. Had to work a little to cull through the stock they had, but it was worth it. Was looking at $2300 for an aluminum Samson. Very pleased and looks great on my boat.

BTW, I agree with the current state of e-bay. I always shop there, but rarely buy there anymore. Usually craigslist or Amazon is where I end up making purchases.

Craigslist is where I got my bestist deal ever. $10000 - $20,000 value 1937 Brunswick pooltable in solid shape for $750 from a going-broke ex-gozillionaire. Also included a really cool revolving cue rack (imitations now $1500) and several hundred dollars worth of cues. I dropped a few hundred DIY to freshen up with new rubber, wool cloth, pocket leather and rechrome the foot bands, but LOVE the deal and the table. Here's a pic for ya:
