ok ok ok, I get it.
So a thru hull should be fine. On the 2000 H180 there's nowhere to mount the pump below the inlet, the only place is under the rear jump seats, where the battery is or where the hyd pump is for the outdrive. So I guess the secret is use a good stainless thru hull, quality sealants (3m), good clamps and overly strong hoses. I shouldn't have to worry about shutting off the valve every time? AND since my boat is in the water 24x7 add a second automatic bilge pump just for safety on it's own fuse and wiring as a backup.
This might just be too over the top to not use a bucket. The only place to put a thru hull on would be UNDER the boat so I'd have to use the strainer type, not the side as it's not accessible by any storage/engine area unless it's thru the transom next to the drain valve.
