Nah, give the guy a break, he likes being prepared. I wouldn't go that far, but then I've got a two fuel injected engines. So I've got another engine to get me home should one have a spark, belt or fuel related problem. I've had impellers go out and that IS something I'm willing to fix when out. But that's just a single socket wrench and a pair of pliers. Pretty much anything else get us towed in. Best money you can spend is a towing program.

The sea tow base is where I launch my boat (and dock it next month).

Here's the deal...it has been a rainy and crappy weekend with the odd break to do some yard work ( i know...boo hoo) anyways I got to thinking what does everyone bring onboard as there necessities. As a long time drag racer I typically over pack tools and parts somewhat resembling a combination between a Snap-on tool truck and a NAPA delivery vehicle. Being an over packer I wondered what I am missing, and if others would find ideas useful for figuring out what items to bring. For now I will skip the basics like sunscreen, clothing, and food, and focus on tools and parts. So here goes...my onboard list includes:

-Rachet set
-screwdrivers
-large/small crescent wrench
-metric/imperial wrenches
-wire crimpers/wire/connectors
-replacement belts
-spare spark plugs +2-wires
-fuses (reg blade for my boat plus two styles for others)
-zip ties
-duct tape
-piece of 2" hose & various hose clamps (can be used a temporary hose patch for most sizes)
-fuel filters
-fluids (oil etc.)
-spare prop c/w nut/ lock/cotter pin
-extra ropes (including stretch anchor rope for towing)
-distribitor cap/rotor
-portable booster box
-paddles
-first aid kit
-2-boating safety kits +additional fire extinguisher and floating rope
-additional flachlights
-extension push/grab pole
-spare drain plug
-glow sticks (great for night time)
-backup fuel pump
-carb jets/gaskets
-volt/ohm meter/tach

Well that is all I can remember with out going out to the boat to look for missed items...

Too much for me, and I have a bigger boat!!! Every one has there own ways of doing things.

Persosnaly, lose the booster box. Go with a dual battery set up. Belts, every other week end I check fluids & the belt for wear. If the belt is going to break, you should catch it then. If you change your cap & rotor every 2 years, you should not need to carry one. Fuel pump, do you really want to change one out on the water?? I do my boating on the ocean, I carry a handheld VHF as a backup to the fixed mount one. Plus a PLB (Personal Locator Beacon). I would also have a small tube of 5200 or 4000, the fast drying type.

I agree with losing the booster box, ang going with the multiple battery setup I just haven't got it done yet (interim solution), as for the fuel pump it is not on the list only the filters, those cintered ones can be evil. I wish I was on the ocean for me it is lakes mostly, and I do not mind if I am the last boat off the water, I could call someone if needed but the time spent idle waiting I could have fixed the problem and continued on with my day/night.The UHV should be a necessity when on an ocean. good advise ... i still say i'd rather be blowed then towed.... :D

Maybe he used to own a Bayliner. Seriously though, how big of a lake do you boat on? I boat on a small 12,000 acre lake and that is why I don't have all of this equipment onboard but if I boated on big water, I would definitely have more than my compact tool box with me. I would assume you boat on Lake Claire? If so, that would warrant the preparedness for a single engine boat.

SMALL? I boat on a small 600 acre lake. That's nearly 18 times the size of my lake.

Food, Cigarettes, plenty of beer, handheld VHF and Cellphone. We boat on a decent size lake that
is 22,400 square miles which translates to 14,336,000 acreas of surface area. 5th largest lake in the world.

Yeah I was going to say don't forget the cigarettes. You can't drink all day and not have at least 1 cigarette.

The primary lake I boat on is also small... 1,520 acres and about a 10min drive from home :)
