Ouch. Those look like original Carlisles... did you have everything you needed to change it?

Gotta love Ozark boating though! :D

I agree LOL! My brothers picked that out, which is odd, because they usually like the more expensive stuff.

Yup, those are the Bias-Ply Carlisle's FW put on that trailer in November of last year. I'm not a fan. I didn't have anything to change it with or even a spare. We sat on the side of the road for 3 hours calling at least 30 different places looking for that size tire. Finally found a place, so I bought two 10 ply radials (so the axle would match). I don't remember the brand, Greenball/Greenval something or another.

I learned my lesson, carry a spare, and bring tools to change the tire. Maybe even carry two spares!

That's pretty disturbing that a massive failure like that could happen at less than one year old.

Despite the location on most FW trailers, I mounted my spare on the tongue (because that's where my existing bracket fit). I found that this is a great location because it makes a good step up into the bow. Very handy.

I kept the mangled tire so I could look at it later. I discovered the tire had lost pressure from a nail or screw hole, which caused it to overheat and fail. I can't completely blame Carlyle, but I wasn't happy to learn this type of tire isn't designed for long hauls. I needed a much heavier duty RADIAL tire.

I like that location, I saw your picture in another thread I think. I don't exactly have the room there since my tongue folds back on a hinge. The hinge is exactly where you tire is mounted. There is plenty room on the side rails where FW usually puts it.

I believe I am going to buy a spare tire rack and mount it in the same place Ray. I do like that. Also I just put new Galv rims and new tires on my trailer, Bias 14" 1760 rating. Now I am nervous. Maybe I should have looked into the Radial tires. What do you suggest on a single axle trailer.? Going to order another rim and tire for spare rack.

The tires that were on the boat were the Good year Marathons. they were only 3 years old , but they just starting splitting and cracking along the sidewalls from just sitting. going to try and stay on top of the new ones. any suggestions for this as well.

The RH is just part of the name of the Carlisle tire. The RH is important because their original trailer tire was called the "Radial Trail." It was the undisputed king of POS trailer tires, you were lucky to get one season out of a set (yes, I know there are exceptions). After losing the entire market to the Good Year Marathon (whose production has since moved to China and is now the undisputed king of POS trailer tires), Carlisle did a complete redesign of theirs - and now it's called the "Radial Trail RH." So, if you buy Carlisles, be sure to get Radial Trail RH, and not somebody's old stock of non-RH's.

The LT you refer to, I assume, is the generic "light truck" designation which is a completely different type of tire, which some people prefer to use on their trailers.
