Is she Italian by origin?

She grew up in Pula across the way, she went to school in Italy when she was older. Not much to do for the kids in the former Yugo so they spent a lot of time in Rome to give the kids some culture, maybe :)

Well, if you want a Bayliner cruiser, you had better hurry. Announced yesterday Brunswick will no longer make Bayliner cruisers in Knoxville, TN, and no longer sell them in the United States. They will focus on the Sea Ray brand for cruisers in the US. All Bayliner cruiser will now be made and sold in South America (Brazil)

Here is part of the press release:

Quote:
Brunswick Boat Group announced Tuesday that it will stop building and selling Bayliner cruisers in the United States so the brand can focus on its core bowrider and deckboat models, as well as new categories, such as the jetboat segment.

As a result, Brunswick said it will stop production at its plant near Knoxville, Tenn., where 225 full-time workers are employed, by the end of 2012 and make its Brazil operations the center for its Bayliner cruiser business. It will suspend the brand’s cruiser sales and production outside of South America.
“We will continue to maintain our leadership position in the North American cruiser segment with our Sea Ray brand," Andrew E. Graves, president of Brunswick Boat Group, said in a statement. "Additionally, Bayliner will make its Brazil operations the center for its cruiser business but will suspend the brand's cruiser sales and production outside of South America,” he said.

Bayliner in the US for 2013 will introduce a new line of bowriders, a new series of deckboats and will launch “Element,” the company’s break into “affordable boating,” in the next several months.
Bayliner will also enter the jetboat segment in 2013 with a new series.

The production of Bayliners will stop in the Knoxville plant, and it will close at the begininning of 2013. Sad news for the workers that have been there for many years. :(

I bet the guys on CSR don't like this one bit because that means SeaRay could be next. I remember there was talk about Four Winns putting a plant in Mexico but don't know if that ever happened.

The CSR guys are saddened about the job loss. Not so much about B-liner cruisers not being sold in the US. As usual there, they beef more about how all this is our current president's fault, and how a "new leader" will make everything right. Yeah.... Right..... Typical Sea Ray owners, living in a dream.

Sea Ray is going to place the 225 workers in other plants, if possible. So that is a good thing.

Figures, they finally make a decent Bayliner and they cancel it. My guess is because they were selling more Bayliner cruisers then Sea Ray. I bet they will also bring in the modern BR cruiser designs into the outdated looking Sundancers.

Ahh, now it all makes sense, I only have about 6 years of total Sea Ray ownership under my belt :)

Monterey - Monteray

It seems that it is all about marketing. They can't have Bayliner competing with Sea-Ray in the cruiser market in the US.

It's not about "focusing Bayliner's efforts" on the smaller models, since they WILL continue to build cruisers...they just won't offer them here.

So Bayliner will again lower their status in the boating world by dropping their successful high-end cruisers, and adding the Element line of "affordable boating". A.K.A. a Cheaper Cheap boat?

Yes, I would question the competency of the president....the president of Brunswick.

Well, what did they expect. They started making cruisers in their Bayliner lineup that were better then their Sea Ray lineup in similar sizes. Heck, If someone said hey you can have any 28ft express cruiser what would it be? A 2013 Bayliner 285. By far the coolest interior to date on a boat in that size category. The Sea Ray comparable model looks like an ancient relic from the 90s. You can't have the budget lineup superior to the flagship lineup. They dug their own grave.

I'm speculating that Sea Ray might totally focus their lineup on cruisers and rebadge the Sea Ray runabouts Bayliner. This new Element brand will be the Bayliner runabouts of today. The modern Bayliner cruiser designs like the 285 will be rebadged as Sea Rays with a little better QC and they'll launch a huge event about the first big redesign of Sundancers since whenever...

Finally make a decent Bayliner ric? My last boat was an 86 2455 Ciera with a VP AQ 225. She didn't have much in the bells and whistle department but she was a very well built boat. The sequential lift hull design gave her a very stable and smooth ride; better than any boat I've experienced in the same size class. I could toss a snot rag in the bilge when I splash in April and still wipe my honker with it come haul out in November. Driest boat I've ever owned as well. At the 2012 Toronto boat show, the Bayliners had the best fit and finish of all Brands there. Sadly, the Four Winns had the worst. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.
I'm not looking for a pissing match here ric,,,,just stating facts as a former Bayliner owner.

I think Brunswick just shot themselves in the foot,,,,oh ya,,,my Bayliner blowing shoes were very well made too.
