Nope, you need to own a stingray to get access. They verify ownership with the HIN and a scan of your bill of sale. No public access.[/quote]

This site should be setup that way

Yes and no.

That forum is owned and operated by Stingray, they can do whatever they want including deleting posts with negative points that could help others out. Granted its really no different than most boat/car/gun/etc forums if someone comes in and starts putting down a brand. Always plenty of non-sponsored brand nutswingers to take up the cause if someone is slamming what they own.

If this site was FW owners only there would be even less traffic, lot of guys that dont own one any more can still give valid advice. I owned a stingray for a while and was on there, pretty decent decent group of people, although it could have changed. When the new owner of my old Stingray registered they booted me off so i have no idea who is there now.

Decent people, but it has the feeling of a cult. They discuss things like Stingray is the best boat brand on the market and don't take kindly to discussion of other brands or faults. Everything that is wrong with the boats, like 99% of them needing trim tabs... they're considered an upgrade, not a fix. I'm the only boat on the forum with a TV. Only 1 other has an upgraded stereo system. Nobody changes out props, upgrades canvas, installs LEDs or any other kind of boating accessory. All indians, no chiefs.

My 225LR needed no trim tabs and it was a real 60mph boat. But it was an inexpensive boat, some decent hardware but everything is just screwed into fairly thin fiberglass and they tend to fall apart so keep a screwdriver handy. I will say the company was pretty good at sending warranty parts and you could actually talk to someone there that had a clue. Main reason I sold it was it beat me to death on anything but glass smooth water. Like anything else in life you get what you pay for, but after you own many boats you realize they are all pretty much crap in one way or another.

Its a closed forum so you are going to have a lot of people that moved on to other boats since they cant stay on the forum if someone else signs up with their VIN. Plus Stingrays are an entry level boat, most people who are new to boating wont do a lot of mods and trade up fairly soon, doesnt make them bad people or stupid. Lot of boaters can care less about stereos, and most stingrays are bowriders, cant imagine TVs being very popular. I have a nice flat screen, amplified antenna, DVD player and xbox360 on my boat and I have never used it - my kids do though :)

One day I'll tell the story of my 100K MSRP Crownline E6 that I owned less than a year, its a good one lol.

It's a centralized place where new owners go to learn about where and how to install smart tabs to fix their boats ride, and so they can also learn how to drill out any drains that got fiberglassed over in construction.

No worries, this topic was "off" before it was ever started.
Here is a brief version of "the story" again...

Recent history is I moved here from Chicago 10 years ago and bought a new FW 180 in 2008, I boated on Lake Michigan prior and swore I would never own another boat when I moved here and kept that pledge for 7 years, but my wife talked me into the little FW. Well after owning a 34' Sea Ray in Chicago prior the little 180 lasted about 3 months, then I picked up the Stingray 225LR, fast boat but kinda cheap and my back couldnt take it on the TN river. Then went into the FW 248 because the kids wanted to overnight, I liked it but everyone was crying they wanted to ride in the bow again, so I bought a large bowrider/deck boat and sold the 248. I hated the E6 from a couple weeks after I owned it, not a very well built boat and not a very well run comapny. The good thing was I bought it for 1/2 of MSRP so I was able to get what I paid for it after nine months and 100 hours and then picked up the 260 at a great deal. Every boat I bought was at a pretty good deal so I didnt do too bad on them when I sold/traded them. Certainly didnt make any money on them but I put 200 hours on the 248, 175 on the Stingray, 100 on the E6 and already put 70 on the 260.

I could go into a lot more detail on the E6, I dont think most people would believe all the issues that boat had (both design and build) and I'm pretty forgiving on low volume production items. I made the huge mistake on shopping on price, I was a little wary of Crownline after the buyout, but a new boat for less than other decent brand two year old used boats seemed like a good plan at the time. Luckily I was able to get out from under it pretty painlessly, at least money-wise, but I had 4 months of work invested into it.

Yea, he seems to like it. According to Crownline mine was an 'early' build and they told me a new ones they fixed most of the problems I was having (did me a lot of good). The main issue with mine was the wiring, my 10 year old could have done a better job, not to mention the added bonus of a couple 3" long stainless deck screws right through the main harness to add a little fun.

It was a running joke with my wife and I what would quit on every trip, or start popping circuit breakers. Dealer was clueless and dropped CL shortly after I bouight it, CL did not even have a wiring diagram that was close.

Hell Crownline was arguing with me for a week that I had a 350 mag and the boat had a VP. They refused to do anything with the props, it was propped where it would hit the rev limiter at 36mph - WAY wrong. Why didnt I notice that at sea trial time you may ask, well the tach was 1200rpm low at 3000rpm, in have to thank Faria for fixing that since CL said those were the correct props. Maybe they were but not for the ratio drive I had..

And many other things..

Considering Crownline and Stingray are part of the same group, it's quite funny how they have the same exact problems.

I keeping my eye out for a 205 Sundowner or 214 Monterey Cuddy. I had a nice little adventure and I will profit nice on my sale so it will be worth it in the end to get what I originally wanted.
