There is nothing wrong with a bowrider on the ocean. If you are taking water on the top of your cuddy cabin, then you have exceeded your abilities.

3-5' Seas are no problem for my Horizon (bowrider). The biggest wave I took on was an 8' breaking wave :shock:

going out Boynton Inlet. Got a little wet on that one, because I could not get the bow over the top. It was amazing how the bow split open the top of the wave, and all we got was spray...did not even soak the carpet. That's the only time I took any water into the boat, but it was less than a gallon. The next two waves were 5 & 6 feet. Did not get wet at all with those. Then it was 3-4' seas beyond the inlet area.

I'll take 3-4' seas on the ocean over a 12" chop on a lake anytime. Ocean waves are spread out.

My initial guess is that Florida is about 60% Salt Water boats, and 40% Freshwater, but maybe it is the other way around. I cannot find any data online about Florida boats identified as Fresh vs Salt (even though they ask you a preference when registering).

Preferring facts to guesses, here is some data I can find:
Florida has 1197 miles of coastline, and 2276 miles of "Tidal Shoreline"
Florida has 11,000 miles of lakes, streams, rivers, canals with an area of 4308 sq-miles (700 sq-miles for Lake Okeechobee alone).

900,000 boats registered in Florida. 50% of them are 16ft to 25'11" + 33% are smaller than 16' (powered) + 12% are 26' or larger.

That is interesting stuff for sure. I am sure that there are plenty of lakes, streams, and rivers that are not able to be navigated by boat that might be counted in that also.

I live and boat in Florida. I know how people use their boats. Nobody touches salt unless you live in Miami or own a center console. It's pointless we have amazing lakes and rivers.

I can think of 5 iFourWinns members in Florida, 4 are in salt, and 1 is in Fresh (you).

I live in Florida and Fly all over the State and can assure you that most of the people and boats are along the coastlines. Have you ever been outside Orlando and Miami? Have you heard of such towns as Naples, Ft Myers, Sanibel, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, St Petersburg, Tampa, New Port Richie, Cedar Key, Panama City, For Walton, Pensacola, Key West, Marathon, Islamorada, Ocean Reaf, Ft Lauderdale, Deerfield Beach, Pompano, Boca Raton, Boynton, Lake Worth, West Palm Beach, Jupiter/Tequesta, Port St Lucie, Stuart, Ft Pierce, Vero Beach, Palm Bay, Melbourne, Merritt Island, The Cape area, Titusville, Daytona, Palm Coast, St Augustine, Jacksonville, Fernandina? The people in these cities boat in salt water (mostly).

I can assure you that not all people who boat in salt water use center consoles, or have any desire for a center console.

To say "Nobody touches salt unless you live in Miami or own a center console." is like saying all Mexicans love Cubans.
