Sea Ray has a VERY good wearables shop. Since I'm looking at selling my Sea Ray and buying a FW 220 I've already looked into this issue. We've got Sea Ray hats, license plate frames, T-shirts and so on. Four Winns does not have quite the selection Sea Ray does. I haven't checked into it yet, but couldn't you go to a embrodery shop or logo shop online and have a few t-shirts/hats or whatever made up?

I would think it would be copyright enfringment or something of that nature if you were to have anything made up with a four winns logo without their permission. Maybe that's only if you sell for profit. I think pet575 is in the legal profession, maybe he'll chime in on that. For what it's worth there is a great site for making up custom t-shirts and the like called customink.com. Check them out. My wife and I made up a couple of t-shirts with our boatname on the front and our names on the back, they turned out great.

Damn, bad news travels fast doesn't it?

I would most definitely be careful about doing much of anything using the FW logo without getting their permission in writing. You never know how a company will react to that kind of thing, even if you have the best intentions. Especially since the suggestion has now been published on a website supporting their brand.

Guys like us, having stuff made for our own use, is not who they will be gunning for.
The ebay store who printed the koozies for sale for profit, now that's a different story.

Although, if they do not offer the product for sale, I'm not sure you are hurting FourWinns.

Brent makes a good point. I'm not familiar enough with the complexities of copyright law to know whether the making of a profit is an essential element to a claim for copyright infringement. I'm just going with the common sense approach of "better safe than sorry" but I still agree with Brent. If that is the case, though, I would think the better practice would be to write FW and say, "Hey, I want to have XXXX made with your logo on it. I'm not selling it for profit-just buying it for myself. Please confirm in writing that this is permissible."

I sent an email to the place that runs the Sea Ray site to see if we can place a custom order using the FW logo. Hopefully they'll let us.


UPDATE: As long as we have 12 items to order, we can pretty much select from the offerings provided to Sea Ray.
