We usually put in up at Cottonwood cove and camp out on a piece of beach somewhere up-river from there - usually 5 miles or so up.
Mohave is my favorite lake around here also for all the reasons you list, although I have been caught by changing water levels up by Hoover Dam before.
Also, it seems like the best hot springs got blown out by the big storm a few seasons ago - I'll post some pics of the storm as we were camping there that weekend.

Have a great trip!

Heading back to Lake Mohave on 7/24 through the weekend. Spent almost a week their after the 4th. Usually we stay at Harrah's or the Riverside (boo) due to comped or cheap rooms, in that order. I think we'll give the Aquarius another try due to referbished rooms.

I checked out Cottonwood Cove based on others suggestions. Not bad! Will consider in the future for some RV camping/boating.

christiantrevor inspired me to store my boat in Bullhead and I couldn't be happier with that arrangement. Makes spontaneous trips much more doable.

I'll keep an eye out for you. We're heading up Tuesday evening the 21st of July and staying through the weekend. Did you get storage at Lone Star?

Why haven't any of you mentioned Lake Arrowhead? I used to go up there many times when I lived in San Diego. :)

As beautiful and awesome as SoCal is, it sucks for boating. Mission Bay / San Diego Bay? sucks. Fiesta Island on Mission Bay was OK but Mission Bay in general is so small.

No. We ended up going to Access in Bullhead. They also had free ice...I really like that perk. I'll look out for you at the Lake...

I'd like to get my boat out in the next couple of weeks. I'll likely take the family, including the 8 month old, so our first trip will probably be on Mission Bay. As was pointed out above, it's not a big bay and a lot of it is 5 mph so it will actually be just fine for baby's first boat ride :D

I want to try out my new polk speakers, my repaired power steering, my replaced speedometer gauge, etc.

I grew up in 29 Palms California, but I've been living in Phoenix for 30 years. Spent alot of summertime weekends at Lake Mohave. We're going to Lake Havasu June 11 thru the 18th. Gonna meet up with my best friend from 29 for the week. This picture was from last July at Lake Pleasant north of Phoenix.

Nice - I plan to get up to Mohave a few times this year also. That's where I took the picture in my signature.

Thinking about a Havasu trip also this year with the family. If you're camping out, some of the sites have picnic tables, fire pits and solar vented porta-potties (Arizona-side of the lake, I think).

I also feel myself "coming down with the flu" and expect it to hit on Friday so that I can take the boat out for a shakedown cruise :D

Enjoy!

Do any of you ever take your boat out in the ocean?? or cruise out to Catalina island?

I take my Funship 214 out in the ocean all the time out of Mission Bay or San Diego Bay. It's a great dive platform for the local kelp beds or shipwrecks down here.
We've also taken my buddy's Horizon 190 over to Catalina from Redondo Beach - fun ride!

I just got back from a quick trip to San Diego, I walked from the aircraft carrier through sea side village, then to Marriott marina by the convention center. Some nice boats!
I forgot to ask anyone where the public launch ramps are.
Next trip down I would like to bring boat along and see things from the water.

Are there that many public ramps. What do I need to know to boat San Diego bay and or cruise the coast?

San Diego Bay has a lot to see from the water! All the naval activity makes for some interesting viewing between aircraft carriers, submarines, beaches, Coronado, etc. Also, you should get a map of the bay - there are channels (all marked) that you want to stay in because of some shallow areas.

There are a couple of public ramps on SD Bay - the most widely used is the Shelter Island Ramp, but it all depends of where you are.... All public ramps in San Diego are free except for Oceanside where they charge for parking.

Here is one of many links - not all of these are on San Diego Bay...:

Feel free to ask if you have additional questions!

Been awhile since us West Coast boaters discussed our boating plans. I've already got the boat wet on a 4 day guys trip at the end of May but my son graduated the 8th grade today and this officially starts our summer. We are heading back to Lake Mohave tomorrow evening. Staying at the Belle June 16th-20th. Anyone else venturing out to Lake Mohave this fathers day weekend?

I wish....

You put in down at Katherine's Landing? How do you like it down there - I assume the water is warmer than it is upstream?

I'd like to say a big hallo from down under to all you San Diegans - San Diego is one of my fave cities in the world. My uncle lives on Point Loma, I've visited him 3 or 4 times. I just love the San Diego vibe. La Jolla would have to be one of my favourite spots - last time I was there I went snorkelling with seals by accident!
