Hmm, there's a thought. I normally run until the jug is empty, then race up to shut it off.

( a good use for the operator safety switch ... other than scaring the crap out of you when you bump it off while running ......... )

I love the simple ides of just running antifreeze (at correct mix) throught the engine for winterizing and as said it allows you to use the boat in the winter sometimes.

BUT how do you know that the thermostat has opened? I have no temp readings on my gauge just cold/1/4/1/2/3/4/hot.

Could you just leave the thermostat out to guarantee filling the head?
