So how bad did they try to stick it to ya?? Care to share?

Cougar - its so bad. MarineMax in Seabrook, TX (where the boat is located) offered me $17,500, and this is under the assumption I am a winning bidder, below the $49,995 asking price in the showroom (lets say I bid and win at $40,000). I spoke to a guy at my local MarineMax said they would give me $24,800 for my boat, but at that price it HAD to be at $49,995. When I asked, why I cant just bid and win and the price is the price and they still give me market value ($24,800) for my trade...I was simply told, we cant do it that way. I have to say, I have tried to do business with MarineMax when I bought my Four Winns...wasnt impressed. Now I am trying to buy from them again and still getting nowhere. The fact is they are selling that boat below wholesale value, especially if I were to bid and win closer to their 40,000 starting bid. Its a great deal. So, if I was a buyer with no trade, I can buy at whatever I bid up to, assuming I win. Now, the fact that I have a trade is sort of like them trying to break it off in me as a result....like they want to make up their loss in the Monterey on me. Normally, I would understand their position as they have to make money somewhere. BUT, as a company, they have listed this boat for 40,000 starting bid and no reserve, so I could bid and win there. That means they are ready to part company with that boat at 40,000. So, if they are willing to part with their boat for 40,000, without a trade, why wont they give me market value for my boat and make a deal?
Very frustrating. I am sort of hoping that nobody bids on the boat and it closes with no sale. At that point, maybe we can revisit this whole deal and work something out. I am not saying I wont pay more than $40,000 for that boat by any means. I just want them to give me a good price and a market value for my trade.
