Cheap and simple plan.

1. Invest in a snorkel and diving mask. During raft up, pull bilge plug and drop at bottom of lake/river.

2. Afterward, quickly (but very subtly) untie lines so that you are not connected to them.

Problem solved. Repeat as necessary.

funny stuff!!! I like it.

This is the best thread I have read in a long time!!!!

Wet doggg, I dont really have any advice. Myself, I don't have any friends in the neighborhood, so I would just tell him to "piss off". "Dude, I boat alone or with people I want to hang with and your just not one of 'em".
I usually speak without thinking and get the wife all upset with me, along with bystanders.

Good luck, I could see myself pulling his bilge plug, this would be some funny story telling at work the next week.

Show up at their place and invite yourself for diner, eat all their food, drink all their booze, then leave without saying thanks.

Ugh, tough situation. But if you're rafting up with other folks might it work to ask them for advice? Perhaps they've got another angle on dealing with the guy. That and one of them might not have a problem having to play the 'bad guy'. That introduces a different set of complications, but ones that might be "less worse" than what you've got now.

It's good to see you're trying to take the 'high road' in the process. Hopefully that will remain an option. There's enough jerks out there already, no need to become one yourself.

Ya gotta feel for the poor guy, but your own pleasure on the boat eventually rules the day.

All the best advice I see here is just to be honest with him. Your problem seems to be wanting family time most of the time, but don't mind them around here and there. Just tell him that. Setting a date twice a month or so, and sticking to it, would be good as well. If you just can't stand this guy at all what so ever, just tell him that as well.

Honesty sometimes does not make you come out as the best person to them, but if you don't like them anyways, who cares.........

I can actually appreciate what you are going through...sort of.

I work a LOT of hours and work EVERY Saturday. My time on the boat is precious...because time on the boat means time with my family. Sure, we raft up with people all the time, but its people we WANT to raft up with. I think you can politely say to him...

"You know, I work a lot of hours and I sure dont get enough quality time with my family. The boat gives us that outlet. We dont mind rafting up with you once in a while, but I am sure you understand I want good, quiet time with my family. Its nothing personal (even though it in), its just that we need our family alone time on the boat to relax...I am sure you understand, you work a lot too."

Raft up with another group of people (with your boat in the middle, so they can't tie up directly to yours) and have them offend your neighbor. Then you're off the hook and he won't come around because of the people you hang out with.

Good luck.

I have thought of that...but like I said they normally stalk us and follow us out of the marina we launch. They will wait at the mouth of the marina for us to leave. One time two summers ago, we launched and hung out at the courtesy dock as they circled the entrance to the marina we launch at. After about 30 minutes he gave up and headed south. After he was out of sight around a point we threw in the lines and took off north. YEP...he saw us and did a 180 . I have not been able to get to a raft-up long enough for me to be in the middle...he normally follows us in to the raft.

Thanks everyone. I think I will just go ahead and tell him that I will ASK him to go with us. If you were not asked...consider yourself not invited. That means boat, house, Lowes, etc.

I do feel for him. I really think that his parents never taught him any social skills. His wife is zero help. She literally will not talk. Hard to get a read on her. But if she thought he was doing something wrong I would hope she would say something. So I bet she is a little messed in the head also.

Load your boat up with these hotties and you won't have to worry about him tagging along.

Once again proving the old saying "there's a lid for every pot." At least they found each other, saving the rest of the dating pool.

Might not be the parents, stuff like Aspergers often explains oddness. Not that it applies here, but sometimes people are just thick in the head and sometimes there's more to it.

Why not send him the link to this thread and let him read about your concerns and the advice the board members have given you. You may possibly end the situation altogether without the inconvience of facing it. Better yet have someone else send him the link.

Oh good Lord, no! Don't draw the nitwit over here, we'll never get rid of him!
