Ric,
Just sayin,
Some trailers have left handed threads on the left side of the trailer.
Lou? Ever run into that?

Hey Ric,
I trust you put marine grease on all the studs prior to refitting the nuts?
Those old studs look as dry as what your stud is likely going to be, for a while again!
It's good practice to also grease the flat section of the hub, where it contacts the wheel.

The hubs are getting replaced this winter so I'm not too concerned about it. The old lug nuts were rust-welded on I just wanted the ability to take them off in case of emergency, which wouldn't have happened until I replaced them (and the sizes were miss-matched with american and metric nuts).

THEN!

I have to do the same thing to my boat trailer (which is in worse shape).

i had a 1977 Apache Pop up camper with reverse threaded lugs..

also some of the old mercury and lincoln cars from way back in the 60s had reverse on select years. then people were apart and realized revers is DUMB and accomplishes nothing

Getting new rear tires put on the car in a little bit, other wise it's a rainy monday.

If you goto the Ram Mount's homepage the marine image is an Ipad running Navionics

Yum Yum i have seen it many times..

well for starters lat night i was busy and did not post. BUT i received a great email informing me that i had come in 3rd place in a boat photo contest for Carver Bimini Tops. I did not win in the covers department.. Carver Covers is a manufacture of tops and covers and they happen to be based in the next town. They are who i have used to make both my custom sized top and cover.

Well i won $50 for 3rd place and i am thrilled to come in 3rd place representing the Four Winns Nation. To be picked out of a couple thousand entered.. So that is exciting for me..

Now onto the important stuff.. The pictures of the RAM Mount with the (phone Xgrip, the iPad Xgrip has been ordered). I held off ordering the iPad mount until last night bc i had not decided if the 3.5" arm was going to suffice and if not i would have ordered a combo instead of jus the iPad Xgrip..

I simply angled the Xgrip so that the iPad would stay for testing the location. My maps were not updated UUH.

GOOD maps finished downloading the updates to the iPad. I JUST installed the new HD Navionics and had not downloaded the maps. But this is what the detailed maps look like.

Thanks, yea even the iPhone 6 4.7" is better than the lowrance i looked at at Cabelas over the weekend. I should bag brought a camera to take a comparison picture. And the iPad 7" is the perfect size in this location. i am ready for my mount and case to arrive. I am very happy with the way things are going so far. CHARTING ON A BUDGET i guess. this stuff is not free, But the iPad size and mapping sure is a hell of a lot cheaper than the lowrance or the garmin 7" for over a grand that i wanted. And those units i would have had to pay $99-150 for the Navionics maps. this will be much nicer over all..

I plan to add a waterproof round dual USB 12v powered outlet next to the Depth finder to power the iPad and iPhone so that i did not have to stretch a cord from the left side cig lighter. I do not like cables stretched out everywhere.

That looks good in the low light of sunset. Its been my experience, the glare on the ipad screen makes it unusable in bright sunlight conditions same with the iphone. Be interesting to hear how it works out.

You've got me motivated. I've been tossing around ideas how to mount my phone to the ski for chart plotting. It just lives in the little glove box in front of the seat but is a pain in the butt to get to when under power. The boat uses a windshield mount which has served me well for over a year now almost exactly like yours but on the other side, but I don't think a suction mount will withstand the g-forces on the ski. I don't want a handlebar mount because on a ski you move them too much. I might just end up with a Ram bolt on mount. To see if I even like it/use it I'm going to industrial strength velcro it to the top of the glove box. Comes in handy? Real mount with real holes. Not afraid of the phone going overboard, it has a floating case.

I've been using my phone for navigation for over a year. No sunlight issues with a Samsung S4 Active. It's saved my butt in blinding rainstorms and dark nights.

Agree i have too been using my iPhone for over a year now and it works well when i have the anti glair screen cover and polarized glasses on.. as for the iPad that is the lowest brightness setting int hat picture. i have already tested the iPad a week or so ago in bright mid day light and it was fine.. ALSO i 99.999999% of the time have the Bimini up. If the glare impares things, I already have a solution. That solutions that i will make a mold and vacuum bag a couple layers of matt carbon fiber making a hood that will shield the iPad. But so far all is going well in the glare department..

The biggest issue i have had with the Navionics app in the past is holding the phone and driving at the same time.. the new screen is much larger than the iphone5 screen and the iPad is even larger so both should help in the navigation..

Like RIC said the avionics charts have saved my ass numerous times.

I have to ask here...so on my lake this would never work as service is next to non-exsistant and the sun shuts any phone off from heat within about 10 minutes unless it's in the cabin out of the sun. So does this ipad or phone work for you because you are not in a very hot climate and you have service? Or is there some piece of the puzzle I have overlooked?

TIA
