You do know that this thread will never die, right? Gotta love boating.

Man isn't that the truth. Haven't been on here is a while and that first post was something I could have written. We're heading into season #3 of boating heck with motor issues no one can seem to resolve. Haven't had it out yet - going next weekend - we'll see what the new year has in store.

Well it's happened again....

Great Sunday on the lake fishing with a friend and enjoying the beautiful weather and scenery.

Got to try out my new kill switch lanyard from West Marine http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=11151&partNumber=10476570&langId=-1&searchKeyword=LANYARD-KILL+SWITCH+OMC

and two FenderGrips I got at the same time http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_11151_10001_20147_-1?cid=powerreviews Amazingly easy to use and they saved me a lot of time and frustration at the dock.

It got a little windy but didn't stop me from using my new fishing pole

that my dad got me for my birthday to bring in 3 nice stripers.

Time to head back and all is going well, when we arrive at the ramp there is a strong gusty wind blowing straight out from the ramp...not looking fun but a nice gentleman at the ramp reaches out and grabs my rope and pulls me in, very little difficulty.

I go get my truck and by the time I get back to the ramp someone has launched there boat right in front of mine, OK I get it this kind of thing happens, I will wait my turn. He takes forever (literally almost an hour) getting his camper parked and walking back down the long ramp and getting his boat started (wish I had a pic...a 1980's era Sea Sprite cuddy cabin) As I watch I realize ther is no way he is getting that boat out of there with that wind blowing with out hitting my boat...I jump up to my bow and try to stop him as he slams his starboard portal window into my bow Imagedamaging my gelcoat and my rubrail. I push him away and he apologizes and I see his window is now broken and think, oh well he got the worst of it...then he guns it and slams into the port side of my baby TWICE!
Image

I don't know what the damage is because I can't see that part of her while she is in the water but he takes off...and I see the damage after I pull her out. I am outraged! But after talking to the park ranger and buffing the scuffs out I realize the damage is minor. The black marks rub off (turns out it was just his rubrail) and there are only two small dings in my gelcoat...

but thats not the point.

The reason I am angry is because of how this captain handled the situation. everyone at the dock was in shock. How could he just hit my boat three times and then speed off? I know the wind was the real problem, but all of us saw that it was a factor and everyone was offering to and helping, but this yahoo decides he can do it on his own and as he is slamming into my boat I see him starring at the well-endowed lady on the dock HELLO 27 mph winds and there is another boat right behind you jerk!

here is his tow vehicle
Image
and his trailer plate
Image now I see he can't even bother to pay his registration on his boat trailer and instead uses a permant AZ plate...

I wanted to do something to his vehicle...but I didn't

All in all no one got hurt and thanks to ifourwinns I kept my temper down...Just thinking the whole time "Well here is another story to add to the "Everytime it's something..." thread

Man-O-Man. I admire you for not blowing a gasket on this jerk. I'd at least take a wizz in his trucks gas tank. AKA being pissed off.

Not sure what the law is out there, but here it states:

An operator involved in a boating accident must:
Stop his or her vessel immediately at the scene of the accident and ...
Assist anyone injured or in danger from the accident, unless doing so would seriously endanger his or her own vessel or passengers and ...
Give, in writing, his or her name, address, and vessel identification to anyone injured and to the owner of any property damaged by the accident.

I think I would have called the cops and hoped they at least gave him a ticket for leaving the scene. Maybe save this idiot from doing the same thing to someone else in the future.

It sucks when you take pride in keeping your boat in great shape and then someone with little regard to the consequences of their actions damages it when really they should of took more care.

Good people do make mistakes, but it's the ones with little respect for others property when they should know better that pi$$ me off.

I would of had a lively discussion with this dude, if it didn't go well I might of found out if the guy could swim or not! Sorry he slipped and ended up in the water. Don't know how he got that black eye either. :)

Just kidding - well kinda.

Reporting his actions to the police would be a real good idea, especially if it was unclear as to the cost of repairs.

Mike.

I did try to file a report with the Park Ranger, and he was very helpful and very sympathetic with my dilemma. He was all ready to fill out the forms when he asked who else witnessed and I looked around and everyone had already left. He said at that point it would be his word against mine, which I am sure is true, and perhaps if questioned he may have owned up to it.
However I decided that the damage was minor, no one got hurt, and that I just needed to get home and see my family, after all the clown had already wasted almost two hours of my time.

Lesson learned, next time get contact info from anyone who witnessed the accident. But honestly looking back on it there was no way this guy was ever going to pay me a cent for the damage he caused.

As a police officer, that situation is crap. Not sure if the ranger would handle the report or the police, but there is EVIDENCE for God's sake!! It's considered hit and run.
