You put in down at Katherine's Landing? How do you like it down there - I assume the water is warmer than it is upstream?

We launch from Kathran's Landing and the water is similar in temperature to Cottonwood cove. (where you launch from I think I read) North of Cottonwood at Willow beach is where the water temperature really starts to drop. I love to make that 70 mile trip from Kathran's to the Hoover dam. I especially enjoy watching the newbie's jump into the water for the first time just south of the dam. The water temperature can be 30 degree's colder or more compared to down South. Compound that with 115 degree air temperature and a sunburn and I can't help but laugh every time.

I'm contemplating a Katherine's Landing trip with the family and would look to stay at the motel/inn there with a slip. I've been out of Katherine's once before about 10 years ago. The motel at Cottonwood, is kind of beat-up, but would also work, I suppose.
Last year up by Hoover, we found an entire lower-end of an outdrive complete with Duo-Prop in the shallows (they were dropping the water level) - someone must have had a really bad day....

I'd like to say a big hallo from down under to all you San Diegans - San Diego is one of my fave cities in the world. My uncle lives on Point Loma, I've visited him 3 or 4 times. I just love the San Diego vibe. La Jolla would have to be one of my favourite spots - last time I was there I went snorkelling with seals by accident!

Hey JB,

Glad you enjoy San Diego! I'll say that I quite enjoyed Melbourne when I was there also!

well I've been to havasu about 4 times so far this year. I might be back on 4th of July or the weekend after. Also been to castaic almost every weekend. I'm usually anchor in the cove at castaic with another all white four winns like mine. (brothers boat). I do want to hit up lake mohave at some point and do a run to the dam. I only been there once and did not really see much with the super high winds I encountered.

FYI - you're only "supposed" to go past Willow Beach Harbor towards the dam between Memorial Day and Labor Day (or thereabouts) if you have more than a tiny outboard on your boat....Check the rules or take your chances of getting ticketed.

i'll be staying at Nautical Inn. They got there own private beach where you can beach the boat overnight in front of your room. They also have a private launch ramp as well. I like it cause I can leave the boat in the water

I've heard of it and looked at it online before. Take pics and let us know how it is out there.

Thanks,

Erik

well the trip turned out great. I forgot the camera so did not get a chance to take any pics. Here are some pics from another site that shows how it was http://riverforums.com/gallery/browseimages.php?c=5

anybody else have any trips planned?
I might got back the 1st and 2nd weekend of August to havasu and hopefully get to try the dam run this weekend in mohave. Any tips or advice on this would be appreciated.

Making a last minute turn-around trip to Laughlin/Lake Mohave. Driving up tomorrow noon Friday 9/24/10 for an evening cruise and a full Saturday on the water. Anyone else en-route? It's forecast to be 106 F on Saturday and it's the annual Laughlin classic car run at the Riverside. Hoping all the traffic will be in town and not on the lake.

I think I may have another trip or two before conceding the season.

Are you staying in Laughlin or at Katherine's Landing?

Sadly, no...and we even cancelled out annual Mohave camping trip which would have been next week.

But I think I will be getting the boat out on either San Diego or Mission Bay this weekend - that's a victory in itself this year....
