So far I have had no reason to buy office for mac

Well, if you want to try something different (and free) try Open Office. It compatible with everything and it works well on the Mac and most all the other "*nix's"

•Practically all later major movies are Linux movies

"Southpark" is produced using Mac desktops with Linux servers.

Here's info on what distribution each major company uses for their animation platforms. http://studio-linux.org/studios/index.html

If you want to read a little about Linux in the movies click the following link http://www.linuxmovies.org/2008/fosdem. ... s.2008.pdf (that where I got the list above) http://www.linuxmovies.org/

The neet part about all this is with a little effort (becoming less and less all the time) you can take hardware (that absolutely will not run Vista for example) and give it a "new" life by installing Linux ........Then you'll have a fulling functional internet ready computer that is immune to the 60,000+ virus's currently out there.

The following is considered one of the easiest out there to install and use: http://www.ubuntu.com/

(MS is eventually going to STOP supporting XP to try to force you to buy Vista or "7".......It won't matter because those operating systems will not run on your old hardware anyway....... "THEY" want you to "throw it away" and buy the new stuff.......)

That's ok I suppose unless you would rather keep your money and spend it on your Four Winns!!!!

And in keeping with a "Boating Banter" subject, I am still amazed that I have a fully functional Linux device in my 1987 Four Winns Liberator!!! Now If I can just figger out a way to connect a keyboard and a mouse!!!

We used open office extensively with the kids at school last year. I had my second graders creating multi media presentations last year.

That would be using OpenOffice Impress! My daughter learned to use it in middle school! It's outstanding!!

You know, schools are a GREAT place to use open source software.

Some students cannot afford to go out and buy MS Office (even at the student price) and the schools would be at extreme legal risk if they "gave" them a "copy" of Office to take home to use on their own home computer.....

So Sending them home with a copy of Open Office gives them the ability to do homework and get more familiar.
(Open Office is SO SIMILAR that anyone who can use it can easily transition to MS or other Office software quickly and easily ......Same thing using GIMP http://www.gimp.org/ , if you can use Gimp, you can use Photoshop.....and vice-versa!!)

I just noticed that you're in "Schwab-ville"

I think that in Oregon there is a state wide program for schools to use open source software isn't there?

Not as much Schwab-ville any more since the old man died. We will see how long the factory and warehouse stick around. It is still our largest employer and they do donate technology to the schools when they upgrade.

There is a big push in Oregon for open office. It started when districts began to run out of money. Thats why we started doing it. The kids do fine with it, but my fellow teachers freak out even though impress works just like powerpoint and writer works like word.

My desire was to have some windows, mac, and linux computers so that students could have a better understanding of what is out there. Unfortunately my job was eliminated and the classroom teachers will be responsible for the tech ed and that is scary.
