This is where I made my mistake also. I added a second battery Friday night and got my ticket on Monday (Labor Day).

I'm really torn about all this. Up here we have Marine Patrol. I could be mistaken because I'm fairly new to boating, but as far as I know they need a reason to stop you.

No, they need no probable cause to stop you. Admiralty law allows great leeway in 'inspecting' vessels for safety. .....

Bill, nhprinter is in NH, if he is on a lake, then the US Coast Guard rules or Admiralty laws do not apply. The NH Marine Patrol must have articulatable suspicion to stop you on your boat.

Live Free or Die, we mean it up here.

I always loved that motto. Makes me want to move there.

Well I won't lump all cops into one general category but how about two instead? LOL. Andy Taylor and Barney Fife. It seems like every cop I've ever met fits neatly into one of these two categories. Common Sense vs No Sense. Spirit of the Law vs. Letter of the Law. Community Support vs. Protecting the Public from itself

It does not sound vague to me. From page 19 of the book.

Quote:
It is unlawful to operate a motor vessel equipped with a storage battery unless the battery is secured against shifting. The battery must be equipped with non conductive terminal shields to prevent accidental shorting. Both the positive and negative terminals must be covered. A covered battery box with a strap is best

Good luck fighting it.

That's new. I checked in 2007 when I added a second battery, and then it was only the positive terminal. Still have the pamphlet around somewhere.

Ordered negative terminal covers for the FW from genuinedealz the other day, but now realize I have to order more for the wife's electric pedalboat. Sheesh! Guess I'm lucky the pontoon has a battery box. :? One would think that the DNR would advertise such a sweeping change, given that boat registration is only every three years.
