That was definitely a magnificent vessel! :)

If you had seen it earlier then maybe you could have scooped it too. I wonder if they really sold it or realized they had underpriced it so they yanked it. I would go to your local Marine Max and have a conversation with a salesman telling him that you would still be interested if the deal falls through  . Maybe he could make few phone calls to check out the situation. Even at $50K I believe it was still a decent deal...

Maybe it just wasn't supposed to be! or maybe the Good Lord is just teasing you and something else is going to hit you soon. Keep your eyes open!

All you missed out on are problems that you don't know about yet. You have a great boat now that you have just the way you like it - enjoy it and revel in the happiness of knowing you owe way less on your boat than you would if you swapped out.

I'd seriously advise to NOT buy another boat and then try to sell yours outright. It is absolutely impossible to sell for a decent price in this market, because everyone believes the hype about how horrible the boating market is, so all you get are ridiculous lowballs all day long. It ends up depressing you, I promise.

BTW - isn't there some luscious irony in a car sales guy feeling shafted by the trade in offer? :P

That couldn't be any further from the truth. Boats are selling everyday for what they are worth. The problem is people are putting boats on the market that they didnt put a dime down on or they got some double digit interest rate on, and now they want someone to bail them out of a boat they no longer want or cant afford.
Boat prices have got so far out of hand, from the "nothing down" sales era that dealers are feeling it now. They wont give you crap on a trade-in, service rates have sky rocketed. Back in the day you could expect to get NADA, not today. Plus when you sell a boat expect to take a loss on the 12 speakers and 5k worth of LEDS you put in your boat. You cant sell upgrades for what you paid!!
Steve Marine Max is the WORST on trade-ins in the market, they dont want smaller boats nor have the clinets to buy them in our area, so dont take thier offer to heart.

Yeah, Joe, you are right...they do cater to the big dogs. Unfortunately....I dont roll like that, so I guess I dont really fit in with them.

TxJole - I respectfully disagree with you on this one. I have talked to enough "buyers" in the last 6 months to know that everyone feels entitled to the deal of the century and thinks all sellers must be desperate because the news says so. This is why I still own my boat - I'm not interested in making sure someone else gets a steal. There is no real "fair value" right now because not only are we competing with a million other used boats from truly desperate sellers, we also have to compete with dealers who bought up stock from failing dealers for fractions of the value and are basically killing the prices by selling them dirt cheap.

2 reasons used boats dont sell, they are over priced or they are junk. I agree dealers are sitting on new boats, because they are over priced for the market. Its not from a lack of buyers. No good reason a new bow runner should sell for 80K. Boat manf. have gone crazy about pricing. The trend is new boat MSRP's are coming down, that means people selling used boats wont get their inflated asking prices. Nada lowered used boat prices by 18% in May for a reason.

You can add the following to your short list:
3. Boat is bottom painted
4. Boat does not have a trailer
5. Boat does not have AC/Heat
6. You live in a state that leads the nation in unemployment.

This was sort of a strange "sale" Many of the boats had the auction close with no bids. I am far from an E-Bay expert, as last week was the first time I ever tried listing something.
I wonder if MM just listed the boats to get some potential leads and the exposure for the boats, and will do the "deal" off E-Bay. Some of the prices did look attractive, but it remains to be seen what and if the boats will sell for.

They end the auctions after they are contacted by a buyer and then they dont have to pay the % to e-bay for the sale. E-bay is a great billboard to promote the item, but the fees are crazy if you sell it by them.

I sort of agree with you...but, I was told if it was sold OFF of eBay...it had to be sold for the showroom floor asking price....nothing below...and was told this by 2 people at different locations. Still, at $49,995 for the Monterey I was looking at...it was a real good deal.
