And of course you look like a boss idling into the guest parking of the local bar haha. I've been around the marina my whole life and still when I see a nice express cruiser roll in I say to myself... damn that's sweet.

Driving around in that Monty felt good. Well, it felt okay that boat was a pig but I got the idea what it would feel like in a properly running boat. It didn't feel like I was in a much bigger over the H180, but the available room was double with the option to overnight. You could stretch your legs, walk around, and not rub against the other passengers. Very trailer-able and I can keep it in my lake OR dry docked at the marina. We were 4 people on it and it felt like it was empty. 4 people on my H180 was a big deal. I only plan to overnight maybe once a month? I want the space more as a place to chill not to sleep.

The GF REALLLLLLY wants me to get a cruiser for it's features and space. She holds valid points and the fact it's not much more money to get a BUNCH more amenities. I can't argue with her, you really get what you pay for and it's not any slower then a cuddy. The gas consumption is virtually identical at cruise (same speed also).

My buddy went from a Sundancer 260 to a bowrider. He said it was a chore to use. The fridge, the toilet, getting it prepped to go out and that it wasn't fun just going out for a few hours in the afternoon to relax.

I find no difference in "feel" between my 238 and my brothers 18' invader. This past weekend we cruised the entire length of the lake @ 38-42 mph taking turns in the lead jumping one anothers wake. I find the 238 to be very nimble, sharp turns, pops out of the water quick and at 40mph I definitly get wind in what is left of my hair. We use ours as a watter taxi as well, cruise to the shallows, jump into the water for drinks and laughs, difference is when others start to leave we often fire up the BBQ, break out the guitar and slip into evening mode. When I visit friends at thier cabins I already have my bedroom with me, tie up to their dock and not worry about time. I grew up sailing and became used to sleeping on the water, and I have to say even today my best sleep is when on the boat. the little things like privacy to change out of wet clothes, wife loves having the private bathroom and apparently it makes a good bar set up if thats more your speed. And you are right there is a certain pride in knowing that your cabin is 40mph portable...

My 2 cents but that said I know everybody is different.

If I were in florida and had access to the islands I would definitly want a comfortable overnighter.

I'm not going to lie going from smaller boats my whole life to something like the 262 kinda scares me in one major way. I just wonder if I'm going to miss the fun of something small and nimble. Does the fun of the wind in your hair and having fun get lost in something bigger? My H180 was basically a water taxi, it was the sexy little transportation to the destination. The beach hang out, the bar, etc. In my illogical thinking a cuddy would still serve that purpose with the option to overnight. Does something like the Vista still work like that? Or does it open more doors because instead of using the boat to reach the destination... now the boat is the destination?

And of course you look like a boss idling into the guest parking of the local bar haha. I've been around the marina my whole life and still when I see a nice express cruiser roll in I say to myself... damn that's sweet.

Spoke to that lady about the 262 Monty.. Nice boat but she was bragging out it was one of the cheapest in the country and how she just got a 4100 Tiara open. I had to explain to her that it's about 2k cheaper then one close to me.... but it's also missing a 5k trailer so what she's selling is a 26500 boat. The most expensive and hardest to purchase 262 in the USA.

Noticing a trend in used boat sales....

--Dealers charge 5k over NADA, would rather not sell boat then not sell it for a reasonable price plus they have to add at least $500-$1000 in dealer fees
--Private party sales that have boats that need a little TLC, no extras, and base model engines think they own gold and want 5k over NADA and shoot down reasonable offers like you just ran over their dog.
--*Private party sales that sell at firm NADA value have boats that need at least $2000 in cosmetic/mechanical work, but take pics and talk over the phone like their boat is perfect
--Dealer/Private party are actually selling a nice boat at market average, but not including trailer, and still think it's worth as much as boats with trailers and compare the price to them. Won't discount the price market average for a good used trailer so you can actually take it home. Expects you to already own the trailer for the boat.
--Dealer/Private are selling a nice boat for a nice price, but still have a loan on the title for way more then what it's worth. In most cases this always ends up in a lawsuit and the new owner loosing a great deal of money.
--ONCE AND A GREAT WHILE there is actually a beautiful low hour boat in mint condition with full service records at NADA price from a boat owner that takes pride in his vessel, but they're all 300+ miles away.

*Most common

The reason you aren't finding that good deal on the boat you want is because your shopping for one. I guarantee once you buy one you will stumble over the deals at every turn.

+1

I also think being prime boating season, the inventory with good prices is down a little. Once we roll into fall, I'm sure there will be some more deals as people won't want to store boats, granted that may not be the case in FL.

Boating season here ends when the water cools below upper 70s.. Novemberish.

Nothing forsale within driving distance worth a crap in the last month. Sigh.

The broker called me back about this one... we started talking boat guy to boat guy...
http://www.americanusedboats.com/BoatDe ... ?&id=32817

He said it's from upstate, been sitting. Owner never used it salt since he moved to FL. The snap in cover is toast from the sun and needs replacement and it has all the troubles of sitting idle for a while. Dirty, fiberglass not all that glossy, probably needs tires, etc. So we were like the NADA is 16,100... and it needs at least $1000 worth of work. I was like dude... I can't pay top dollar for a not top dollar boat with base engine and no options and needs work. I can put in an offer of 15k but that's it. He agreed and was like well, the best I can do is ask the owner but he's pretty solid in wanting his unrealistic 20k and I told the broker well you need to make him think realistic and he agreed.

We'll see?

I hear you. This boat search has been extremely painful and I'll have to decide tomorrow whether or not to let mine go, pending a positive test ride at 10:00. I gty that will happen, since there is nothing mechanically wrong with my boat and he already visually inspected it.

I won't know about the boat (PowerQuest 240 Ultra) I really want until August 6th when he returns from vacation with it. I did shoot him an email today offering his full asking price, so maybe that will help convince him to let her go......

It's a damn full time job trying to find a boat. If that Chap was clean, up to date, used frequently from an owner that has pride in it, and needed nothing.. I'd gladly fork out a few grand over NADA no questions asked knowing exactly what I got. BUTT.. you gotta be crazy to think I'm going to pay top dollar for something left under a tree for 2 years that is in need of a list of minor repairs.

It's currently under contract, but the dealer said it's falling through no money has been seen. I told him I have cash in hand and call me when he's ready for me to haul it away. Not as big as I want, but it's a 60mph boat that fits my lake without fear of getting kicked out. I called stingray and the cabin is 6ft long so I fit. I want it. Bad.
