They are predicting about 3" here in North Metro Atlanta where I live and after the debacle we had a couple of weeks ago where people were stuck in traffic for 15 hours, the Governor has declared a state of emergency in 45 counties. This obviously means we won't get squat.

I'm from the GR area. Still own a house down there. Not Hudsonville, but another suburb.

And yes, Barbeau, is halfway between SSM and Detour. On the St. Mary's River.

On topic, it was -15F here this morning.

They're talking 5-8" here depending on the track, if it goes out to sea less if it pulls inland more, plus ice is getting thrown in there too. I got 2 bags of sand and ten more gallons of gas for the house generator. We have never lost power in the winter since I've lived here but the prospect of icing adds risk there. My set up for the home generator takes about 5 gallons a day to keep the house warm most of the day, but that was during Sandy when it was not nearly as cold as now....

It's 80 right now, 83 tomorrow. Cold Front Thursday high of 66, mid/upper 70's in time for Sunday Funday.

Winter just can't get a grasp here.

Who cares ric? You're not living in an area pertinent to the polar vortex. Give it a rest! It's getting old.

Lou, we are going to be spared as it's running south of us. Your gennys fuel consumption should be about the same, maybe a tick more even with the extra load. They run at a constant 3,600 RPM giving you the 60 HZ that all household stuff requires, thus the fuel burn remains fairly steady. I heat with a wood pellet stove and use the oil fired furnace a little to prevent the pipes from freezing in the basement. Today I checked my usage. So far this winter, I've burned a half a tank of oil and used 4,800 pounds of wood pellets. My electric use was over $300 last month. This is insane.

Did I mention, WINTER SUX?

What I did during Sandy to save fuel was run it in the morning 2 hrs to get ready for work then shut it down. Then when we got home I started it up and ran it till about 11 pm. I had ice in the freezer to keep stuff cold. That worked when the outside temps were not less that 40 or so. We have not hit 30*f for at least a week or 2. So I think I'd have to run it quite a bit longer to keep the house warm. There was an ice storm in PA and they were without power for several days.
This spring definitely looking into the nat gas conversion for the generator.
During Sandy we lost power for 12 days. I put about 120 hrs on the genny. Siphoned about 30 gallons of gas out of the boat. Can't do that now because it's under about 6" of ice and snow.
I have a 14 gallon gas caddy, 4 five gallon cans and two 2.5 gallon cans. When all are full about a weeks worth. We lost so many trees from Sandy maybe we'll fare better in an ice storm.
Oh well this is a REAL winter.....

That's what you don't understand. It SHOULD be cold.

I'm in Lancaster county. How is it that the narrow strip of 12-18" just happens to straddle Lancaster county? Someday, I will again feel the warm sun while floating on a lake... :(

Can't speak for everyone here in the west but we would love every inch of snow you are getting in the east. I like to see full pools of water to float my boat in

I honestly don't mind cold and snow much but ice, is just awful. You can't walk on it, can't drive on it, ice brings trees down and power lines and makes your life miserable.

I actually love the snow, but we have had more than usual this year and I am ready for things to start warming up so I can start thinking about boating again.

+1. Last week's storms helped a little, hoping for a few more.
